Last fall I was thinking of selling my Vespa 2007 GTS 250 to a friend, who took it for a test ride.

He got a couple miles away when he said he looked down and saw the temperature gauge was all the way as high as it could go and it was flashing.

He then proceeded to ride the scoot back to my place.

The water/coolant reservoir had no water showing when I went to take a look. I tried to put water in it, but it all ran out immediately.

Any ideas on what happened, how to fix it, and whether it's easy enough for a mechanically inclined person (I've worked on lots of cars) to fix it himself?

I'm thinking the coolant tank sprang a leak and then the entire thing overheated. I'll guess the whole thing, including gaskets (if any) is fried.

But I'm having a heck of a time finding which parts I will need to fix and where to get them.

TIA!

PS: I searched in the forum and could find, at least under my search terms, anything exactly like this problem. Sorry if it's repetitive!

Most probably a hose clamp has given way. The coolant reservoirs can crack, but usually just a split along a seam, and there'd be some left in the tank.

If the water appears to fall from the front, you'll need to take the whole glovebox assembly off.
