Yes ... they are still a symbol of globalization pushed to the extreme like buying a Land Rover made in India.
But yes, everyone must be free to choose also based on the brand that (we have already seen) ennobles those who have it.
I don't like the lines of German cars (I like some,few) very much even though I understand that each of us sees things differently; from the point of view of the engines nothing exceptional even if in the USA I only see models of (for us Italians) large displacement and large engines.
I am not objective, on cars unlike two-wheeled vehicles I am very nationalist.
