1958 Vespa up on CL, for only $2500 and looks very much "restored." Looks nice, gold is not my color, also not exactly stock as far as I know. Engine looks very modern, like a P200. But it's always hard to tell. I'd only be able to tell by the circumstances "did you restore it? when did you buy it?" etc. Any tips?

It's been painted - but hard to tell much from single photo.
P200 is uncommon bodge motor.
Could be a find.
Post the other pics perhaps?

Quick look online - hard to tell.
Best guess - its a good old fashioned US executed bodge.
If your close - worth going to see.
Obviously not going to be all original...
Motor/wheels/etc/
Look for rust. Ideally you would be allowed to pull the gas tank - all will be told in the tunnel with a cell phone photo with flash.
Edge where floorboards meats tunnel has a step. That step should not be filled with a ton of body filler...
You might ask who repainted it and when - and history.

Itís so hard to tell, but this one in sf is much better deal. A VB1 for 1800. Looks very complete.

while that's a stunner and certainly a good deal, this is not ideal for a vintage owner without experience and deeep pockets, and patience, and the ability and or willingness to source parts, do the research and the work.

looks like a bajaj or somebody did a garage resto.

gold is not your color? pass

mos def not stock: 10" wheels, that horn, that center stand,

that motor is not a modern P series. could be anything from VBB to super

funk-a-licious: chrome cowl hooks, no shot of the fork, dem seats are indo, why is all hardware painted? tail light looks whack, and what's with the pop rivets on the rails?

but besides all that, gold is not your color. next.
