Modern Vespa

There's an often referenced post DIY Diagnostic tool for injection Vespa's with MIU ECU but it doesn't work with newer bikes. The plug has changed and the software mentioned (guzzidiag) doesn't support the newer ECU.

This post should work for all recent piaggio scoots & bikes (vespa, beverley, liberty, mp3 etc).

1. The cable.
Recent Vespas use a 'Euro5' plug even if the bike is E4. This plug is red and under the pet carrier on the left or on some other vespas in the battery compartment. You have to squeeze to remove the black cap. Search for euro5 obd2 cable in ebay or amazon, should be less than $20. eg https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003540612076.html Don't worry if it says honda or suzuki etc in the ad.

2. The device.
With the above adapter cable you could connect a normal code reader OR can use an ELM327 bluetooth adapter (which is cheaper and my preference) to connect to your phone. Search for ELM327 obd2 in ebay/amazon/aliexpress, typically less than $25. eg https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/354167471096

3. The software.
I use CarScanner on Android, there will no doubt be similar for iPhones (search for obd2 or elm327 in the store). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovz.carscanner.

4. The codes.
It seems some codes are standard across all bikes and some are not. I think the low numbers are the standard ones (maybe less than 1000?). The number displayed will be correct but the english description will be wrong for the non standard codes. Has anyone tried with an ABS Primavera?
Mines a 2021 150.

I'm 99% confident it'll work. Just have a quick look under the seat first and find the red connector

Ah, you don't see an ECU codes connector in the scooter you don't have? (or perhaps your profile information is incomplete - though it shows this was your first post)

i tried connecting to my 2014 GTS 300. I have an older diag plug (FIAT) where an external battery connection is required.
I did manage to connect the cable and my OBDlinkLX (green) adapter; my phone did connect to it as well, however I was unable to connect to the ECU.
Which connection profile do you chose on the CarScanner App?
I tried other apps like ScanM5X, TuneEcu but no luck...ScanM5X did show some signs of life but again Vespa's are not supported on their list.

explanation as to why you had no success (off the top of my head so take it with a grain or two of salt):

the above guide I wrote is for using the can-bus yet iirc your old gts only has k-line on the diagnosis connector. the other old guide that I mentioned is for k-line.

the k-line is an older standard for connecting to ECUs etc where as can-bus is a newer standard. some devices have both some only have one. eg the abs unit in my hpe has both but the hpe ecu has only can.

does this work for a 2013 piaggio mp3 500?

does it have a matching socket for the red plug? if so most likely yes, otherwise no

I know this thread is quit old, but I think it still it possible to use that cable, obd2 adapter and app to read out any fault codes from a 2019 Vespa GTE 300 HPE?
Is it also possible to delete those?
the link to the fault list is not working anymore, is there another place to find those?

I bought this one, as it matches the photo in his description. I'm going to cannibalize this adapter, as I had a hard time finding a pigtail with the Euro5 (ISO 19689) socket.

I just took a multimeter to that ISO 19689 socket.

With the socket facing you, and the latch tooth on top, here is the pinout from left to right, top to bottom:

The microcontroller from Amazon has UCAN by FYSETC silkscreened on the back.

I took a length of wire from the OBD2 connector I cannibalized to bridge the 3v3 and B0 contacts. Then I plugged it into my Mac and opened the CANable updater to flash the most recent official firmware (b158aa7).

The weather here is lousy, so I won't be able to test it on the Vespa tonight. Thankfully, the H, L, and GND terminals are labeled, so as long as the table above is correct, this should be easy to rig together.

I did buy cable and ODB from the Aliexpress, download the app Car Scanner to my iPhone. Connected to my Vespa. Got it to work.
Could read out fault message and delete it.

Would this work on a 2018 Primavera 150cc? It says "newer" models but I am unsure if a 2018 counts as newer

If it has the red 6pin plug then yes. If it has the 3pin black plug then no.

My gts user manual shows the plug. I'd expect same with a prima manual
