Hello all,
(1980 P125X)
Both LT & RT rear turn signals are inop. I checked the wire on each cowling and made minor repairs where i now have continuity when checked with Ohm meter. I also connected a 12v batt directly to cowling causing light to come on. So both bulb and wire are ok. I also checked output voltage coming from the frame and got a reading (see foto). What should be the correct voltage output?? I also cleaned the ground on the cowling for a better connections and nothing. What else can i check. Thank you!!! Crying or Very sad emoticon

Are the fronts working? The flasher units/relays often cause weird issues when they die but pretty sure the front and rear indicators are on the same circuit so front and back indicators should be affected. But I would check connection/continuity from the relay/flasher unit right back to the bulb. If that is good - then try a new flasher unit.

Is it a battery model or not?? If not, switch the red and white wires on the flasher (red to white and white to red). If your rear signals start working and front are gone, it's the relay...

Pegs not seating properly when cowls locked into place? Possibly not seating all the way in.. or do the contacts in the holes move when the pegs are inserted?

Hi all, finally got around to checking the relay and found the red wire connected to the white and the white connected to the red. Tried moving the wites so that the colors matched with their position and what it caused was for none of the signal lights to work but instead both the headlight and brake began to flash. I also removed my cowl and placed it on a similar model vespa and lites worked normal. Could the problem still be a bad relay?

You could chase the continuity of the power from the bulb back to the switch.
Since you know the wiring and bulb in the cowl is correct, check continuity between the connection in the hole where the cowl pegs meets the frame to the connection under the horncover. If no continuity, pull the tank to check if that connection is good.
Next check continuity from the wire under horncover to the handlebar switch.

Use the diagram to verify the colors of the wire from cowl to switch.

Ran continuity throughout using colorcoded diagram provided all checks OK. Noticed relay/flasher red wire on white and white on red. I switched them to red/red and white/white. This caused both the headlight and brake light to start flashing. Placed them back in the incorrect way and all i continue to get is only the front flasher. Am i looking at a defective flasher??

IF the front works and the back don't work, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have a bad flasher. Following the wire diagram, the power for the front turn signals is the same that powers the rear. The power leaves the turn signal switch and the wires split under the horn cover junction box with one going to the front and the other to the back signal.

What type of DC voltage are you getting when checking the hole on the side of the frame where the cowl pins goes though? When you flip the key on and the front bulbs flashes you should get dc voltage that goes up and down. Make sure multimeter is set to dc voltage.

If you're not getting voltage outside the hole, pull the tank and see what voltage you're getting inside the tank on the wire that goes to the cowl pin receiver. If no voltage from that area, see what's up with the connection under the horn cover. If the power is leaving the switch and going to the front it should flow to the back from the same current.

IF you're getting voltage outside the hole and cowl wiring is correct, the cowl pin is not contacting the receiver in the frame. IF you're only getting power on the wire under the tank that goes to the cowl pin receiver, the cowl pin receiver is bad.
