I spent my first 35 years in northern California, with a couple of summers in Ohio. I didn't notice any appreciable dialect differences between Nor-Cal and AZ when we moved to Phoenix 19 years ago. My husband showed an affinity for the great lakes region of the U.S. in areas neither he nor his family have spent any time.

A few of the quiz questions will change if you choose to take it more than once.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/upshot/dialect-quiz-map.html?campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20210430&instance_id=29989&nl=the-morning&regi_id=121889768&segment_id=56889&te=1&user_id=12ca78623f81ab7a6fc042cbb10c915d

I've added green stars to the three areas I've spent the most time. Less than a year total for Ohio.

Scandinavian "Fargo" Dialect in Minnesota
Yah sure, and Don't you know. Also a Little "You Betcha!".

I just finished a rode trip down to New Orleans to visit my son. Cruising
through Mississippi provided a taste of that rich southern drawl on talk radio.

It nailed where I grew up, and even had my place of birth noted on the map.

Speaking of dialect ...

Er Somaro e el Leone

Un Somaro diceva: - Anticamente,
quanno nun c'era la democrazzia,
la classe nostra nun valeva gnente.
Mi' nonno, infatti, per avé raggione
se coprì co' la pelle d'un Leone
e fu trattato rispettosamente.

- So' cambiati li tempi, amico caro:
- fece el Leone - ormai la pelle mia
nun serve più nemmeno da riparo.
Oggi, purtroppo, ho perso l'infruenza,
e ogni tanto so' io che pe' prudenza
me copro co' la pelle de somaro!

1° maggio 1915

Poem in Roman dialect by the famous poet Trilussa (with a satirical background), translation (roughly):

Title: the donkey and the lion

A donkey said: - in ancient times, when there was no democracy, we (donkeys) were worth nothing; in fact my grandfather, to be right, covered himself with a lion's skin and was treated respectfully-
-Times have changed, dear friend- said the lion
- now my skin does not even serve as a shelter ...
In these times I have lost all importance and every now and then it is I who, out of prudence, cover myself with the skin of a donkey!-

I feel marginalized. My dialect seems to be missing.

Whatever fuckface McGee, I’ll take it anyway and report back.

If you allow me, a dialect unlike a language is a distortion of the language typical of an area caused by environmental and cultural factors; it's not ... I repeat, it's not a bad thing.
Cultural uniformity tries to flatten this thing to make the transmission of concepts faster and more understandable but at the same time tries to eliminate a small cultural wealth that a dialect brings with it especially when it helps together with the mother tongue, a better understanding between people.
In your own way, with your slang expressions you constitute a small wealth of culture.

Way off. It had me in Stockton, Modesto, or Fresno. I doubt I've been in California as many as 30 days my whole life. Places I've lived in Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota are only close to the fringes of the red. I'm just a bland MIdwesterner. Er, maybe all my friends moved to California; I'm the only one left.

That was fun Thanx.

Most of my life I spent in the San Francisco Bay area – got me!
Second most time spent in Hawaii, born and raised there; most similar color.
Third most time spent equally in New Mexico and Arizona; most similar color.
But, never been to Florida.

Funny thing. Mrs. JKJ, an Iowa girl, was placed in Des Moines right where she was born.

Nope! Couldn't quite pin me down, though one of the cities is kind of close to where I was born and spent my childhood. But still not in the right state.

Of course, I've lived in a bunch of places and picked up bits of language from all of those places, so I guess it's no surprise that I am, literally, all over the map.

I took this quiz a good number of years ago -- over a decade, maybe? That first time, it pegged me as being from the Baltimore region, which I'm not. But my father is.

I got Modesto, Fresno, and Salt Lake City.

Not even close.

I am a native Angeleno (Los Angeles), as was my mother.

My father was born and raised in New York City.

I finally got it to peg my hometown. All I had to do was change firefly/lightning bug to firefly. Lightning bug is what my Ohio relatives call them.

It appears that westerners all talk similarly, but the north-east / southeast are where the accents are. Rotary, as opposed to Roundabout, lit up central Mass for me.

Nope
Everything indicated was hundreds of miles east, in places I've never lived. Might work better if it was actual speech analysis. I suspect people who read a lot would be harder to pin down on word-choice.
