look useful if the rack is folded.

but not if there is a topbox on the rack. this is my problem, the rack has some small movement in it's hinge and therfore with the weight of the the box (even empty) it wobbles back and forth rattling. I currently have a lump of foam between the box and the vertical part of the rack to stop the wobble

On my previous Vespa, I put a hose clamp on the rack, essentially fixing it in the down position. The clip that comes with that rack allowed it to rattle.

On my new Vespa, I went with the fixed rack. Either works; I like the fixed rack because it allowed me to mount my top case just a bit closer to the seat - looks better to my eye.

Yes, I use 2 stainless steel hose clamps with a strip of bicycle inner tube cut to size which goes under the hose clamps to protect the chrome. No rattling going on here.

don't see how that would help me. it ain't the little black clip that came with it to hold it closed. I always have my topbox on and the hinge itself is a little loose and rattles.

related: I did a lot of 4WD tracks yesterday (i'm stupid) and noticed more rattle than usual. checked today and the springs on the hinge had broken and were rattling. so i've zipped tied the springs for now.

Thank you for all your advice and insights. Would probably get the fixed type. Stay safe and happy riding

I dont know what kind of rattle you all are talking about. I just put a brand new Piaggio Folding Rear Rack on my brand new Vespa Primavera and there isnt a rattle of noise coming out of, off of or any where near this thing. The spring is so tight, its insane. That thing is going to break my finger if it snaps back. LOL. I did the Radiator Clamp trick yesterday to keep it in position and no, none, zero, nada noise of any kind is happening. My 2c.

If you have rats in the garage you can get a trap using a piece of cheese and a wire.

Right answer. The fixed rack is designed to carry the topcase.

Have you tried your foldable rack with a topcase?
