Hi,

I changed the variation rollers in my 2016 500ie to Dr. Pulley sliders at 4000 miles. It eliminated most of the "chatter" on take off and seemed to be a great improvement. Then, after about 200 miles, I have a very loud squeak on take off and deceleration. It stops as the rpms increase. Any thoughts/suggestions of things to try?

Thanks!

Marty

I am not impressed with Dr.Pulley products (tried 2 sets of rollers and a clutch) and found them to be highly overrated.

I have achieved similar "improvements" by using 4 of the stock Piaggio 25gram (black) rollers along with 4 Piaggio 21gram (light blue) rollers installed in a staggered pattern to obtain a overall 23gram average.

Can confirm that
1/2 25g and 2/2 21,4g - top pick

So, are you suggesting that the Dr. Pulleys are the source of the squeak?

The outside of the belt was rubbing on something. It was a little chewed up. Not sure if it was riding too high on the clutch or the variator. I put in a new one and carefully torqued the clutch and variator nuts.

did you get the new one seat deep into the clutch before installing the variator? this give you enough slack when installing the various that you can move it with out binding before you do the final torque on the various nut and check again the belt is still free before buttoning it all up.

Thanks, I did. I had to use a rubber mallet to get it seated deep enough to get it on the variator pulley. Then, I turned and tightened 3 or 4 times before I used the torque wrench.

I hope you mis spoke and meant Clutch pull not variator pulley on getting it seated deep.

deep on the variator means the belt is holding the variator half apart and the 2 plates are not together thus when the belt is in the high position the variator is now loose.

Yes, I tapped it into the clutch pulley so I could get it on the variator pulley..
