Hey all,

Just bought a scooter that had been sitting for years. Was able to get it running and idling, then it fell on its side (gently) and stopped idling. Fuel came out of the air filter, too.

I was able to get it to idle weakly for a bit, then it would only start with carb cleaner in the intakeóonly to die a few seconds later.

The previous owner apparently removed the evap system.

Iíve replaced the air filter, put in a new plug, replaced the petcock, drained the tank, and put new gas in with sea foam.

It fires as long as there is carb cleaner blown in. Iíve tried having someone shoot small amounts of carb cleaner in the intake while throttling. It gets close to running, but then dies after a few seconds.

Anything else I should do before attempting to remove and clean the carburetor? Iím a novice with engines, so Iíd like to avoid removing the carburetor, but Iím willing to take a shot.

Thank you!

First change the spark plug and if it is a 2-stroke engine check if you have oil for separate lubrication.

sounds like the jets are clogged( gas so Terrible today)...carb cleaner and remove jets from carb ( very easy) spray and use a wire from wire brush and clean the orifice

Thanks for the tips. Here is the status.

Replaced tap.
Checked lines ó fuel gets to carb.
Cleaned jets and carb.
I have spark ó it fires with starter fluid and I replaced the plug.

It will not start or idle without carb cleaner or starter fluid.

Anything else it could be?

Now that you have replaced the plug don't use starter fluid and crank it over a few times.

Check to see if the plug is wet. Have you checked compression? Bad compression won't pull fuel through while spraying it in is covering the problem. Have you checked valve clearances?

Hey. Thank you for the reply. The plug is dry. It has good spark. New idle jet installed. Starter is strong.

However, no joy. The starter turns, bit no fire.

It ran just a few weeks ago,and Iím stumped.
