I'm not sure if I'm imagining things... I seem to remember that previously when I clicked the arrow beside a thread, I would be taken directly to the last unread post.
When I do that now, I'm initially taken to the first post in the thread and then moved ahead to the last unread post. The end result is a lag to get to the post, and an awkward intermediate "jump". Is it just me? Was it always this way and I'm just remembering wrong? |

It's always been structured this way, and hasn't changed. What your browser does might change, depending on the page and its contents. Or just the browser being cranky. |

I eliminated the Go button in order to keep the forum popup on-screen for more screen sizes -- as the screen shrinks, that control becomes more and more awkward, until I have to remove it completely for small phones. If the go button is a must-have, then that will mean the entire control is unavailable for a whole additional class of screen size. I don't want to impact people's habits unnecessarily, so I'll think about what to do instead. Hang tight. Preview window could use some attention (I think).
- The old version of the site software showed the preview of the page at the top of the window and you scrolled down to the edit window. - With the current version, after you hit Preview, you have to scroll up to get to the top to see the preview of the page. And then scroll down again to get to the Edit window. It's workable but not as user friendly. Some people may not even realize the preview is shown further up in the window. Example below. Personally, I like the older Preview page since that's the objective of seeing a preview of your post. Hope all that's clear. It should be obvious if you try it yourself. Cheer! When the editing page loads (whether initially or as part of a preview operation) the textarea (that is, the message-editing box) has focus -- meaning that you can start typing without first clicking the message-editing box. Because that box has focus, I think the browser (probably all browsers, but I haven't checked) will scroll the focused area into view. If your window is fairly tall, then it will already be in view and no page-shifting will need to occur. Otherwise, the browser thinks you want to see the focused message-editing box. Changing this behavior will be a compromise. I think I can remove focus from the text-editing box when the page loads, but that will mean, in most cases, that you have to click on the box before you start typing. So, not sure how to proceed. |

jess wrote: That sounds like you're having a problem. Can you describe it? You see ... I know that Google translator is not perfect and when after having made a translation from Italian to English I know that 20% of the text is incorrect or incomplete, so I review it in the translator but on the contrary and correct grammar and form that they are wrong; it is easy with the discussion of common themes but more difficult with the technical terms for which I use a bilingual Italian-English technical dictionary and a normal Italian-English bilingual dictionary (on paper). I also take note of the English "dialect" terminology by putting it on a text that I update to avoid misunderstandings in speeches and also noting which "delicate" topics should not be spoken of as inappropriate or delicate, I hope you will appreciate my efforts even if sometimes I make mistakes or "figures of shit" (Greasy would say ). I'm actually writing down the small problems and if they persist I'll report them to you. |

Jess,
The Preview window now operates as I remember it and is much preferable (for me) than bringing the focus to the text edit box after hitting the Preview box. I say preferable because I don't edit the text till after reviewing the preview. Having to then click on the text box to edit is fine with me. Thanks!! Miguel |

I know you are mostly seeking bug reports, and have tons of work on your plate. I am hesitant to suggest a potential new feature for that reason, but I'll offer it up anyways.
What I would give for the ability to turn off notifications for threads I have responded to, and can no longer stand getting the little red bell for, or show up in my replied list. Once you reply to a thread, any new posts on that thread will show up in your replied list with a little red bell telling you there are new updates. There are a few threads which I have responded to in haste which I really didn't care about, only to have taken on a life of their own and never seem to end and drive me nuts that I am notified of any new updates! I'm not talking about the receive email notifications or the subscribe to thread notifications.. specifically how you automatically receive warning of any updated messages in a thread you posted in once or twice and didn't subscribe to. My OCD needs to check/read any new notifications. This carries to all sites/devices/services I use/visit. It is a personal OCD that I just can't prevent. My gmail inbox is clean as a whistle because of it and when I see friends whose gmail inboxes list thousands of unread emails I start panicking! I realize this is probably not worth the effort and is low on the totem pole for time devoted. I've come to my own workaround which is to really force myself to restrain from posting to off-interest threads in the General Discussion section unless I really really feel the need. Obviously the recent coding threads are not what I am annoyed by, as I've contributed quite a bit to them. No hard feelings if this suggestion is tossed in the bin as I understand most probably don't share this OCD! |

The intended behavior is that you will only get a notification for one of three reasons: 1. You get a thumbs-up 2. You are quoted in a thread 3. Someone replies to a thread that you started Those are the only three reasons at this time. I would be curious to know, then, which of those three notifications you are seeing in your notification panel. Each one has a different explanatory text -- if you can tell me what that explanatory text says for the unwanted notifications, I can tell you if this seems like an error or not. And of course, clicking on the link of the notification should take you directly to the post you are being notified about. |
