Modern Vespa

As I was creating the MV Entomologist award a few days ago, I was pondering what other awards I could add to the forum to recognize the contributions of the members here. The obvious choice was to recognize a very significant milestone for the dedicated among you.

We have long held the rank of Molto Verboso as the point at which you become a made member of Modern Vespa. Indeed, Molto Verboso is a unique intersection -- it shares the MV initials with the site, it is the point where ranks begin in Italian, and MV also translates to 1005 in Roman numerals -- the number of posts at which the rank of Molto Verboso is achieved.

So I'm adding one more trick to the Molto Verboso title. Starting now, the forum will start awarding a Molto Verboso badge to members who have achieved at least 1005 posts. But there's a catch. It isn't automatically retroactive. You have to actually take action to receive the award.

What action? The clue is in the name of the rank.

The pips and awards and titles have always amused me. I thought there was something in the FAQ about them, but it seems like that was only about the ranks and I just remembered it wrong.

Would it be too insane to have a list of all the awards given out, just for giggles, even if they're special individual ones? I don't mean necessarily everyone who has one, just a list of the awards themselves. I realize that wouldn't be a priority, but more of a fun thing.

Well, this would be a good place to start. This is the actual image that is displayed for all of the existing awards.

(It's one big image, and we use some CSS trickery to show only a piece of it at a time).

Okay, returning to the list of awards:



From left to right:

MV Toaster -- given as a general award for outstanding contributions to the forum. A single member receiving more than one of these awards is possible.

MV Golden Toaster -- This is on par with MV Sainthood, and is given out only to a vanishingly small number of members. A single member receiving more than one of these awards is possible but highly unlikely.

Saddle Sore 1000 -- Given to any member who completes the IBA Saddle Sore 1000 event on a modern Vespa. A single member receiving more than one of these awards is possible.

Bun Burner 1500 -- Given to any member who completes the IBA Bun Burner 1500 event on a modern Vespa. A single member receiving more than one of these awards is possible.

MV TP Award -- We don't talk about this.

MV Entomology Award -- Given to any member who finds and reports a forum bug. We still haven't decided if multiples of this award are possible.

MV Participation Award -- Thus far given only to Greasy. So in terms of raw numbers, this is on-par with the MV Golden Toaster.

Molto Verboso Award -- Given to members with 1005 or more posts, plus an undisclosed additional action. Thus far, only two people have figured out how to trigger this award. One of them cheated (though I am allowing it to stand because he actually figured it out), and I don't think the other one connected the dots between his actions and the award.

That's all the awards that exist at the time of this writing. I am taking suggestions for future awards, too.

Those are fun. I knew about one, the Entomology Award because it's new. I'll try to be more verbose and see if that triggers the Molto Verboso Award.

I'm glad there isn't a Chiacchierone Award.

Well.. I seem to have achieved the reward but admit to being stumped!

Always been humbled with this award. Means everything to me. But, especially those that really contributed for its existence. Judy and Al, hope you're reading this. And, all the other MV participants that were so involved with the MV Snoopy project. Too many to list, but you know who you are. And, a special thanks to Apollo 13 LMP Fred Haise and Apollo 16 moon walker Charlie Duke. These two were the boosters that sent our MV friend on a world journey promoting Vespa culture with the blessing of NASA. Would have never happened without them and our beloved MV community.

You have to discover the way to activate it before it can be bestowed.

Hadn't heard about this until your suggestive post right now. Can you share the original thread or mention what happened? I'm assuming you sent something into space on a shuttle on behalf of mv?

It's even less complicated than that. And apparently it's something that you veteran users don't do very much any more, judging by how few people have actually gotten the new award.

And I still have no clue as to how I gained the award. I'm not even sure it's complimentary.

I'm all for slinging whatnot, I guess.

he is just like greasy both have a special reward for them being them, which I personally respect both.

Someone recently got upset for getting a special Tagline for reporting most posts.

What I was trying obviously isn't right.

I figured it out, I think. But I'll need to check my work.
