Good morning Guy's and Gal's

I begin a wonderful journey restoring a 1974 Rally 200 that I bought from a
gentlemen in SF last night...Great guy, nice transaction Great price...i purchased a 74 rally 200 and a 79 P200e and the Rally is going to the media blaster hopefully by noon!!! enclosed are pictures of the beginning and I invite
any comments, recommendations and genuine help...

I am a Lambretta cat by proxy, always will be but a heavily sought after rally 200 (100% complete BTW) is a bucket list job for me and I include it on
any man's Journey thru life...like going to Prison, eating a meal at the House of Prime Rib once in ur life and Europe in early spring...

i've done the Latter 2 and working slowly and not very dedicated to the first BWK? Ha Ha I am kidding, altho not a saint and blessed by luck The Pen is
no place ii want to visit in the state Of california...or in any state


wish me luck folks, I will do my best for a proper 100% italian Restoration with US specs (bike came out of JB's scooters in San Jose...)

That is a great project, Max. I had a Rally180 which I converted to a 200 Electronic when that came out. It was the best runner of all my two-strokes (GS150, GS150, Rally180, Rally200, P200, PX200E). Smooth, powerful acceleration all the way up to about 120 kph. I'm sure you will love it.

Nice score! Saw those on scoot.net. Are you going to try and find replacement turn signals or fill in the holes and repaint?

What holes? There were never turn signals on any Rally that I saw. One could fit bar end indicators, but then had problems fitting a switch.

I did eventually fit indicators to mine, but cut holes on the body panels to do it, and used some Datsun side indicator lenses to cover the holes - all pretty flush and neat. Had big problems sorting out the electronics as my Rally180 was 6 volt with no battery, and I had converted it to 12 volts.

Thanx guys
you bet i'm going to use the flashers and the good news? the other 3
flashers were included in a box along with the oil reserve window and another
working original cdi and the best news...it is a true 74 so the key switch
is underneath the front seat by the helmet hook...this makes this bike a
little more sought after piece, so look out for her in the future marketplace
as, like I said i am a tru lambretta fool at heart!!!

US spec Rally 200s came with DOT required turn signals. In my opinion they are ugly, others think they are beautiful. To each their own. See the following image, it also included a DOT specified rear/brake/license plate light, DOT reflectors on the front fender, and had an oil sight glass for the oil injection (I'm not 100% sure that oil injection wasn't standard in other parts of the world, I do know the 180's oil injection was unique to the US market)

My Restoration of 1974 Rally 200 begins today, wish me luck!
Good Morning
So I'm into tearing the bike down and am posting a couple of pics for
record...I am novice restoration guy so again any advice is always welcome
My question right now is...is there a one stopping shopping place for this bike or is it best to shop around...the engine is frozen so an entire rebuild is on the menu, so knowing that suggestions...again my goal is to keep stock AMAP but
always welcome todays tech for the standard replacement parts and any
ideas on the ignition below the seat? i would like to keep but have no key

Scooterwest or Scooterspeed will have 99% of everything you'll need. Scooterspeed is more for tuners and racers but has some stock motor stuff. If not, they can order it through SIP in Germany for you. Scooterwest definitely favors the stock motor side and will have all the body/cosmetic stuff you'll need. The nice thing is they'll have everything in stock in their warehouse.

I just saw Robots restore video and the bike he has is exactly the one I picked up so if they have everything then its a matter of getting the engine out and
seeing what's what...and finding out how the electrical is...the ignition is by the helmet hook and it looks like its operational but no key...maybe have one made? IDK...But off I go...

The 74 Rally has a sweet spot in my heart. I used to have 5 of them at the same time (addicted). Sadly the official key switch is not something you can find replacements for. You might be able to find a locksmith who can make a key for you if you have the original switch. If not, shop on amazon for a generic 4 pole key switch that fits that hole.(DC in, DC out, ignition kill, ground wire)

74 restoration photo update
So moving along here..piston, cylinder and head looked good, altho soft seize looks probable...whats a soft seize? IMHO it seized up but let loose after either stalling and kicked over again or the owner may have had to pop the top and 'loosen' the victim from the clutches...the crank has no play, but varnished up a bit...everything in the gear box is solid and shifts well, clutch is really nice and firm so my recommendation (keep in mind this is me in my own head)
go clean up the cylinder and get first oversized on rally 200...
replace all gaskets and seals on this side...sito plus up and rebuild carb...
vapor blast her, recover seat, R&R all cables and housings, get all parts painted together and slap her back together...

any other suggestions are welcomed and Happy Holidays to all...
