Good morning scooter friends, I trust you are all well and kicking,
I have been absent for a while busy researching various iterations of electric vehicles including two-and three wheeled scooters, motorbikes and bicycles. There is a bewildering number of innovative options coming on the market.
One that particularly caught my interest is the KYBURZ Trike from Switzerland that is now being used in significant numbers by Australia Post. It is replacing the venerable Honda "Postie Bike" that has been used here for decades. The new Trikes better suit modern delivery requirements that consist of mainly parcels through on-line shopping and less actual 'mail' that has just about been killed off by e-mails and such.
I fear that these electric vehicles will mean the demise of wonderful old faithfuls like the Piaggio Ape and many others. Cheers!

For those of you (like me) who are interested in this discussion - this is the Kyburz electric trike as used by the Australian postal service.

Quite so, Kevin T, the Post Office regularly auctions off thousands of these "Postie Bikes" and many motorcyclists have one in their garage for old time's sake. Also, every year there is a 'postie bike race' across the country, including desert, to raise funds for some charity. Great fun! Can you imagine how many of these bikes will become available now they are obsolete? Honda will be crying into their soup as their Postie Bikes every year accounted for the bulk of motorcycle sales in Australia, regularly earning them the number 0ne spot.

Come to think of it, that Kyburz Trike is very similar to the Drive Easy Rider disability scooter, of which I have one and happily use every day to get about the place. However, I am lusting after the Kyburz because it is allowed on the road and on cycle paths, and can travel at speeds up to 45km/hr, whereas I am only allowed on footpaths at a maximum speed of 15km/hr.

There's a small town called Kyburz, on the highway near Lake Tahoe. There's a single saloon with a marquee that reads:

WELCOME TO KYBURZ!

NOW LEAVING KYBURZ

That sign always makes me smile.
