From today I am the owner of a Fiat 1100 D from the year 1963. An Italian sedan very popular here in the 1960s and whose modest 1221 cc engine and 50 hp was considered the average car of Italian middle class families. It is now a classic car and although it does not have an exceptional line it is considered an economic approach to the world of vintage cars. I will have to restore it but it is in good condition, I put a photo of how it will be, including the color, at the end of the work.

I come from a big VW family and brought my hubby to the darkside back in the '80's. When we moved to Arizona, I sold my V-Dubs so he could keep his 1969 VW Bug convertible.

I guess I started my own big VW family...

Donít Vespas and aircooled VWs just seem to go together?

Vintage Cars
Attila,

I remember well that Fiat 1100 when I first arrive in your great country
in 1970. I bought a Fiat 500 in 1972 for $850.

ChrisFromCLE

You have hit the Jackpot having both a vintage Bug and Karmann Ghia.

I wish I still had this car.

The Benz is only 26 years old and drives like new. Does it count?
International shipping problems have delayed the arrival of my newest oldie, coming from Sicily, but I hope to be tooling around come July.

A Mercedes always counts even if the line of those built in the last ten years is no longer as it used to be ...

The 2CV Charleston is also a beautiful piece of history, I know it well. Why does it come from Sicily? Is it a family car?

Some time ago I owned a '60 Bug a '60 Ghia and a '69 Ghia. When the oil light came on in the Bug I figured I could make it home - Oops!
The '60 Ghia had the most comfortable seats I'd ever seen, and a frog painted on the faded green hood.
The '69 Ghia had the most uncomfortable seats I'd ever seen, but I loved them all anyway.

Back in 1969 my parents took us on a 6 week vacation to visit mom's family in Germany. Since we were staying for a long period of time, my dad didn't want to rent a car for that long. He ordered a poppy red 1969 VW Bug convertible. We took delivery of it directly from the factory in Wolfsburg the day after we arrived. What a great trip! 2 adults, 3 kids, and all our luggage in a VW Bug for a 6 week tour of Germany, France, and Italy. At the end of the trip, we dropped the car back at the Wolfburg factory, and it was shipped to our local VW dealer in Knoxville, TN. I wish that car had never left the family.

I used to own this 1939 Fiat Topolino. I had to sell it because I didnít have dry storage when I was transferred to a coastal city. I got an agreement from the new owner that he would offer it to me if he ever sold it. He didnít and I lost track of it. During our COVID lockdown I managed to track it down and I have been offered the opportunity to buy it back. Now I need to find the money.

When I bought her.

The three owned by the gentleman I bought it off.

What I can buy back.

I purchased a Pinto while attending high school and still have it. Not exactly desirable vintage, but it runs great. Hopefully, I never get rear-ended.

Love it! I had a 1971 Ford Pinto in highschool. Same color as yours. I swapped a small block Ford V8 and a C4 transmission for the stock 4-cylinder. Also swapped the front suspension (so it could handle the weight) and installed a shortened Ford 9" rear-ended. That car would scream in a straight line. But it didn't stop too well. Drum brakes at all 4 corners with no power assist. 😂

Nice! The Ford small block was definitely a popular swap.

During the early 1980's, I had lived in Mesa (off Alma School), where there seemed to be a Smitty's at every corner. That summer heat (and humidity) was brutal, but I was young and tolerated it... Same for the Pinto. I also have a HD (1987 883 Sportster) and my middle name is Craig. All in all, I really liked AZ.

I came to Arizona in 1986 after graduating from college. My first address was at Baseline and Dobson in Mesa. After living here 35 years (as of this week!) I'm pretty used to the heat. I had sold the Pinto before coming out here.

I feel personally insulted by this thread! Iíve driven, as a daily driver, cars older than most of these so called ďvintageĒ cars! 😂 My first daily driver was a 1929 Ford Model A!

Anyway, thereís a 1958 MGA 1500 Roadster in the garage with the scooter fleet. 😁

I don't see why ...
You must consider that (if not excessively modified) a vehicle deserves to be saved regardless of the market value or the number of units produced; in fact today with the fast recycling of materials (including plastic) and the hunger for metals, cars and motorcycles / scooters are demolished before they can be evaluated from a historical point of view.

so, this counts as vintage...

80 911SC been in the family since 84, i learned to drive stick in this car. it's got almost 300K on the motor (never been apart) i've done the transaxle once and the gear set once. two clutches. lots of brakes and tires, though mostly of my own volition. saw duty as a daily driver until about 5~6 years ago. now it's for fun...

here's the other one. and my ugly ass.

69 barracuda. 25 years and a million miles later. it's seen upgraded suspension, motor upgrades, different motors and transmissions, gearing changes and other chicanery. but that beast has gone coast to coast four times and made the run from cabo to BC at least double that, rolled vegas many times plus whatever nonsense i was up to. never, ever, once left me at the side of the road*

this is the warhorse i ride into battle. steelie cop rims with dog dish caps, the smell of vinyl and exhaust, that third pedal and roar of exhaust when ya get on it. done.

*it has only left me at the side of the road when i've ran it out of the gas... which is like... three, maybe four times?
**gah, i look fat
*** that garage in the back ground is no longer there.

know if you make your way out here the first one is on me!
Daughter went to college is Seattle, so we've travelled cross-country several times. Sometimes it has taken us a month or two to find our way home, but we've yet to visit California. Ever. (other than an overnight flight to Oakland, a visit to a couple of vendors, and then a flight back, in the '90s.) We want to ba able to spend maybe six months wandering around out there at some point. I'll be thirsty by then.

@Attilla Here's one for you. My Dad bought this in the '50s from the original owner, and now my brother owns it. 1923 Ford Model T sedan. It is completely original and unrestored other than normal maintenance and had babbitt bearing poured in the '60s. It still runs at 98 years old, and was last driven when it was loaded onto (and off) the trailer in the photo in 2006.

Oops, photo was larger than I thought...
And, it is a 4-door. I was thinking my '29 Model A Tudor Sedan.

That's cool that such things still exist, and have not perished or become unrecognizably modified.

Love this thread.

Other than my Ď89 Volvo 240 (Shut up! Itís a classic!) we have a 1985 Porsche 928. My Dad has a Ď62 Corvette that will be mine someday, but Iím in no hurry to inherit it. He also has a Ď35 Ford 5 Window Coupe and a Ď66 Corvair.

The Porsche is for sale in case anyone is interested.

I really understood that the joke was ironic but others could misunderstand so I specified that the concept of historical vehicle is subjective, basically it is what happens with the rat-bikes or the Vespa -boge but the concept of fun is lost in believing that a historic vehicle is just a museum piece and not also something you can continue to have fun with every day.
