I just realized that I never followed up on this.

I requested the insurance company allow my mechanic to evaluate the car. They gave the OK and I set up an appointment to have it towed in.

The day we had scheduled for said mechanic to inspect the car I got a call from the insurance company to inform me they had decided to total it based on the pictures. If I had known that I never would have gone through the trouble of having it towed in the first place. Still, I was very impressed with the tow driver dragging the car out of the pole barn.

I had selected a few examples of other vehicles to use as reference with the expectation they would low-ball me. Much to my surprise, they offered me more than I had planned on selling it for. Significantly more. Like, buy another car more.

The deal is done, the money is there and the car is gone. I've said before that money can't buy happiness, but it can certainly make you less sad.
