Just wondering how much paint I need to buy to paint my '73 Sprint.

Let's say I go with rattle cans: 3 coats primer, 4 coats colour, 3 coats clear coat.

Would 3 or 4 cans of each be sufficient?

Cheers

I can't speak to rattle cans, but I used a quart of DTM epoxy primer, almost a quart of base coat, and a little more than a quart of clear coat when I painted my GL, which should be comparable in terms of pain required.

I don't know what that translates to in terms of rattle cans, though.

Are you going to get those cool two-part cans, or just "regular" spray paint?

Thanks Chandlerman - big help.

Yeah those 2-part clear coat cans look boss. I will most definitely be using that.

I think rattle cans have come a long way and I've seen some ppl's results that would be hard for anybody to tell from a professional respray with the best paint. It comes down to prep, materials and patience for the result, but the jury is probably still out on how it will look after five or ten years of use and weather. But I do like to use rattle cans for their convenience and will be paying close attention to what you do with your Sprint. Lots of pics please AND info on the products you choose? Eyelashes emoticon

Here's my question about paint: I think a good epoxy primer gives you the best long lasting foundation from what I've picked up here. But I've been using self etching primer for a long time... Just switch to epoxy for best results OR self etching first, then epoxy? Or something else?

This is Eastwoods epoxy primer, anything else ppl are using that works well?

I've been using something new called "Easy Max" for trim here in Greece, some kind of fancy recipe - comes with big and small spray nozzles, dries fast, just does NOT run and gives an 'impressive satine effect' as advertised on the can. Did a P horncast with it.

Ahhh painting, I like to paint. Seriously though if you're going to rattle can follow Voodoos lead , there are some good products in rattle can.
Personally if I were to do it again I would invest in a half descent gun and goto a auto paint supply place and by the primer and paint and sandpaper and tack cloth and reducer , what I miss?
