I just bought someoneís stash of Vespa parts and accessories. Probably 3000 lbs worth of stuff. A few frames, lots of motor stuff, stators, exhaust, carbs, levers, flywheels and more.

Obviously the damaged stuff is going to get tossed. Thereís plenty of chipped flywheels, broken pistons, rusty whateverís. Out of whatís left, my question to you guys is what would you guys be willing to buy if you saw me at a parts swap meet?

1.Would you want to buy a rusty iron cylinder or nah?
2.What about a crank thrown in a box with other cranks?
3. Rear axle?
4. Flywheel?

Iím trying to get a mental picture of what to save/toss and will inventory things soon.

(Thereís 1/3 more not pictured)

1. no unless it was GS/SS/Rally or special in some way
2. mostly no
3. There were some cross over years in the '60s where the shoulder got a taper on it and the fly side case bearing was the older multi part kind. Those are useful for installing newer gears into VBB cases.
4. If they have the stator and are in good condition then yes. If they were removed from the bike with two shovels used as pry bars, then not so much.

Wow! Nice score, MJ!

I'd say that stuff like axles, cylinders, pistons, and other stuff that you can evaluate its state on the spot would probably do well at a swap meet.

Having just just done a bunch of electrolysis rust removal, I say you can make a big difference in the appearance/readiness for use of rusty parts with pretty minimal effort and set yourself apart from the crowd at the same time.

If I'd gotten started with the electrolysis sooner, I think I'd have tried it on the GL's floorboards. Next time...

Old style carbs (24/24), shrouds, fan covers, carb boxes (lubed and premix), 200 cases, P200 cylinder(s), old CDIs. And if there was a straight frame.....

These things I'd look for if I was at the swap meet. It's the only stuff I may buy to have on the shelf....

No idea on individual items just yet.

I definitely do want to inventory everything in the next week and come up with a master list. Figured id post that on here and Scoot.net and start taking offers. As long as I get what I put into it plus the cost of storage, Iíll be happy.

Lifting? Ha, I was there mostly as an onlooker. It was as close to an episode of American Pickers as Iíll ever be in. Literally a truckload of goodies ... some junk, some very cool old stuff, many NOS parts still in bags. Too much to go through in the couple of hours it took to move it all.
All I can say is if you need a part for your old scoot, talk to MJ. Heís now officially ďthat guyĒ.

I just bought a P200 engine that was for sale cheap (I thought it was a Rally bc it's a VSE).

But it has about 2/3 of its parts. I was looking at replacement parts, and they're quite expensive, and original Piaggio quality is always better.

But if I build it, I'll eventually be needing:
- Cylinder head
- Carb box/carb
- Gears
- Clutch bell
- Flywheel/stator
- Rear hub/dust cover

Those add up as repro parts.

No idea if thereís any SS stuff. Gotta really go through it first. This weekend is busy keeping the Mrs. happy.

Random survey question. Should I keep the case halves that donít match? Is there a market for those?

Yes, if you have the room.

I bought a flyside case for my P200 and it was a chore to run one down. You could be sitting on them for a bit... but there is always someone, somewhere, sometime.

I'll be contrary and say no.

The case half numbers are not unique and are not a grade or sizing (like done on some pistons/cylinders). The just aid in keeping the set together when you have less than 1000 to deal with.

I'd not trust a case half matched even if the number did unless there was something in the history of both that would point to when they separated.

If it's a rare case, then the calculation changes a bit (I have a Lambretta TV1 chain case that I've lugged around for 30 years).

it's all depending on what people want. I've seen guy buy used good crank as well as old scratch cylinder to bore and used with new Piston.

If you have any pre 1975 vespa speedo, exhaust, headlight let me know. I need a few for my projects.

Well today I went through the stash and probably tossed 1/2 of what I bought. If it was broken, worn, stuck, rusty or junk it went right in the dumpster.

1/4 of it were stock parts taken off someoneís scoot when it was time to upgrade. 1/4 of it was broken in some way. 1/4 is good to go, 1/4 not broken, but needs further investigating.

The two heaviest boxes were the two filled with cranks. I probably saved 6 in total. Rest were junked as they had wrecked threads or key ways, rusty, blueing/damaged etc etc.

Sadly no particular year or reason to any of the good stuff left.
