Can you re-gap old rings

Well, they're not exactly old...just 200 miles or so, but after resolving some air leak issues I'm suspicious my first-over rings were not gapped correctly by the motorcycle guy who handled them.

Am I better off replacing the rings and setting the gap or can I pull the existing ones and recheck/adjust the gap?

If the gap is to small gap them properly, just keep track of ring location and orientation and put them back where they came from.

Did you use the piston to push the rings flat inside the bore? Then measure?

If you did that and still got .45 I'd say you'll be fine. Maybe a little blowback escaping past the rings in time.

like MJ said - use the piston to push them into the bore an inch or something and then measure the gap - the piston helps to make them square so they aren't tilted and you get the best measurement.
