Unfortunately, I have found a problem. The engine casing has a chip taken out of it

BOO!

I will take it to the Dealer today but I'm unsure as to what my stance should be - can anyone advise?

Thank!

Casting imperfection, I wouldn’t worry since it’s not a structural point or there’s a leak…

Enjoy your new Vespa!

Wow! I love the headlight position on this bike.

The other thing looks like a non-issue. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum. Don't worry about the small chip; it's not an issue. Enjoy your Vespa!

Welcome! And I wouldn’t give that chip more than a moment’s thought - tho you might bluff the dealer into a freebie of some sort or discount towards something. He may do it gladly as opposed to replacing the casing.

But I wouldn’t worry over it. That’s a sharp scoot!

Welcome from the Land of 10,000 Lakes

You will love the 300. As a new owner you can be fussy. I expect
most would not even notice the imperfect casting.

Again Welcome,

Welcome to the forum. It's a great place to sound out problems and find answers. I've had people diagnose issues more than once over the years.

That's a fine looking Vespa. I wouldn't worry about the casting issue at all. Only another Vespa owner looking hard would probably notice!

Welcome to MV from Latina, central Italy.
And... Horror ...! Maybe a Piaggio worker in the throes of a Covid raptus has lost control, I don't know.
Or someone has raged cruelly and removed a piece of aluminum! Patience, with a small rotary bur you can round the wound ...

I like that seat much better than the split seat on my GTV. I'm forever sliding forward on it.

I agree with everyone about not worrying about the chip, but man, I know how annoying something like that can be, even if it makes no difference whatsoever in anything important.

Welcome to the forum! Beautiful bike!

As far as that chip goes, I worked in aluminum die casting for 25 years. It’s the in-gate where the metal flows into the mold. It’s a thicker spot at the parting line and sometimes when it’s trimmed it doesn’t leave a nice clean edge.

If you were to look at other cases that came from the same die I’m sure they’d be almost identical. No worries.

My experience...look long enough and hard enough and one will find a problem. I always find something, get wound up about it, and a couple of days later I forget about it.
