Does anyone know the GTS grab rail diameter off-hand? I ended up with way too small a flag mount, so I clamped a mending bracket under the topcase and screwed it onto that. Ultimately I'd like something a little cleaner though. Had anyone found a proper GTS flag option at this point?

Also hi, everybody.

Too bad that doesn't fit, that's a cute little flag holder. Cute little flag too. I just measured my grab rail and it has a 2.5 inch circumference. I'm not good at math, but the omnicalculator says that's a diameter of about .8 inches.

Scooterwest has a flag pole that clips onto the legshield, but I like the way yours would connect better.

Welcome to the MV party! I agree with Kim, yours is cool. I also like your adaptation and I'm thinking one centered out the back would be nice.

Thanks! After my first commute with it the poor thing's unraveling (all the pride flags are really cheaply made) so I am trying to source a sturdier version.

Hi Trenchleton and welcome to MV!

I have a mast and mount from ScooterWest that was attached to the screw hole on the rear rack. Your topcase may prevent using that particular method. Besides, I think it's discontinued. Might be worth your time to send them an email with your photo to see if they have something that will work. Fwiw, I like the setup you have - just need a longer mast.

Try putting a coat of nail polish (or other lacquer) around the perimeter.

Thanks! I wanted to see how it held up first. I'm going to grab a progress flag from Party City tonight that is supposedly nylon. I'll get a few spares, may try sewing some at the edge as well. I agree that I'd like a slightly longer mast on it, but if I don't go beyond the top case I get away with my good Scooterwest cover still fitting.

You might notice in the photo that the mending bracket actually has the excess topcase bolt going through it - I just need to find a matching nut to sit down on it. The clamps keep it tight enough for now though.

Mounting the flag alongside the topcase will mean the flag is flapping against the case while riding - not good for the longevity of the flag. I suggest mounting it higher, or behind the topcase. Higher would look better.

I recall back in the 1960's soaking my pennants in some stiffening solution so they stood out all the time, and didn't flap much.

Funny, reading this at first I had, er, rather lower expectations until I scrolled down....pretty slick job. Clearly not exactly what you want, but still pretty nice-looking.

Nothing to help with, but, hey, welcome to MV!

I'm wondering if there might be a bicycle flag mount of some sort that could work.

A nice concept, but as Mike suggests even after a short space of time both the flag and the paintwork of the top case will suffer. Expect to lose all the paint from the side of the top case where the flag strikes it.

Higher is definitely the way to go.

Whether you mount alongside or behind, the mast needs to be taller.

Yours looks like a folding pro pad mount. Some of their fixed mounts come in the 7/8" diameter size. That should fit. And all of their pole lengths fit all of their mounts. I wonder why they do make the folding in 7/8"

They sure don't have a stock pride flag, but they do have a custom flag option.
Now I want a pride flag too.

V2:
*hem-taped, two-layer, edge-stitched flag with clear coated edge
*23" wood pole
*acorn nut topper
*split wood dowel in the bracket so that it isn't weirdly clamped at an angle

I measured with a micrometer and it came out to .73

Nice idea for the attachment, I have seen people attach a whip flag to the rear crash bars / grab rails and also mount on the classic rack for the top case (https://www.classic-racks.co.uk/product-page/top-box-racks)

I have my flag mounted on the the rear Faco luggage rack extended with a bar. Had some issues where the flag would always fly backwards and kept tearing them apart until I got an x50Flag and mount system.

Ha, I've noticed mine does indeed fly backwards. I don't know that I want to spend the money for the X50 myself.

I was on the fence about the cost myself since most are around $30-$50 and the x50 cost was $120 - tried a few of the cheaper options and then ending up buying the x50 away so it cost me more lol -- honestly they make their mounts and flags themselves and the quality of the metal and flag was really really good compared to the others.

Also, they will custom make the mount to the diameter size of your bar for free (standard Vespa is 0.73 vs the standard x50 is 1/2 (0.5) or 5/8 (0.625) - the Faco is actually smaller than the standard Vespa bar so the 5/8 worked for me, but ending up not using it since I mounted it in the back further.

Interesting, if you look at their facebook page, they have a post by one of their members where the flag/mount has lasted 160,000 miles ~ wow!

Flag Quality,

As stated on previous posts, the more durable flags last longer. The cheap
ones unravel and tear apart on the ends. I have mine on my Honda that I drive to work. Freeway speeds break the cheap flags up quickly.

Numerous members of my scooter group display flags on their scoots. I may
start soon.

Welcome to ModernVespa. That flag looks great on your green Vespa.

Bob Copeland

I went through two cheap flags before I found this real durable one.

I like your light green color. It grows on me every time I look at this thread.
