Social media does nothing so much as make people feel like crap about themselves as they wonder, "Why isn't MY life as great as that of this one or that one?" It's so sad. I'm a hell of a lot more honest here on MV than I am on "social media". Though, I don't suffer from that envy you mention. Probably 'cuz I'm super (duper) smart, sorta handsome, less than paunchy, not-quite-yacht-wealthy, and totally lacking in anything to complain about. |

Or anywhere else in the social media world, for that matter. And as a result, you get a different kind of abuse, one where people can harass other people with impunity. So, yeah. I think I'm happy with the balance that MV has. And...we all shine on. |

Fortunately, I haven't found it to be the case for most MVers that I've met in person. I met one MV participant who seems normal (for lack of a better term) but presents the alternate / enhanced version of themselves here that you describe. He's someone I'd avoid in real life. I've met several MVers who've surprised me by being perfectly charming in person while their on-line persona leaves a lot to be desired. The vast majority have been the same on-line as in person: warm, welcoming, helpful, happy to geek-out talking scooters (or craft-beers or gardening or any number of other subjects). I miss those who are no longer here and am always happy to see familiar names /avatars posting. It's even better when I get to see them in person. [/hijack]

There's even a vague image of what each could look like, if there is no photo of you on MV. Until I saw Greasy's photo recently, I thought he looked like his avatar, side burns and all, how disillusioning I'm not game to describe what the rest of you look like in my brain, but most are riding scooters in your underwear. Not for that it has diminished in its importance, no really ... Thanks to Greasy i am learning the American "slang" language (saved in a separate personal dictionary). Jess, I have SUCH respect for what you have set up here, and have come back to bring it into the 21st century whilst it retains it's own homely charm. I feel I know so many of these people but have only met one - in West Island (Australia) - when there to celebrate my 65th birthday. I look forward to the world returning to its former self and being able to travel and meet some more of you in person. Again, Jess, thank you so much for what must be an inordinate amount of work.

I got the negative karma warning, which came as a surprise. Other forums don't use any system like this. Perhaps because they fail to see the usefulness of it? Methinks some petty individual is blowing their daily downvote on me every day LOL.
I'm amused and nonplussed by you whoever you are. I can downvote too you know. 1 downvote per day LOL To the Forum Overlord: I can't imagine how you could create this system and not expect people to abuse it. Real motorcyclist forums wouldn't even bother.
