Every four or five years we get August levels of heat in June.
This current heat wave (normally for June 76 degrees) has been 95-98
degrees for the last nine days and is still continuing.

Older residential Central Air Conditioners are failing. They actually can not
keep up and by running constantly freeze up their coils. On my way to and
from work cars are off to the side of the road over heated.

Usually, when it gets this hot here in Frost Bite Falls, the humidity in the
air explodes into thunder storms.

That is the news from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Everyone stay cool.

Dude, I'm there with you!

The mesh jacket and 3/4 helmet still do the trick as long as I'm moving. Traffic is a bitch, though. You don't have to to worry about traffic 'up nort' though!

I'm still doing bicycle rides just because there's no one else on the paths!!!!

I've been following that. I thought we had it bad here in New England but it was nothing compared to what you guys have been dealing with. You have my sympathies.

I'm heading that way tomorrow.
Fortunately high in the mid-80's and good chance of rain.
I love riding in the rain....

We here in Utah are experiencing hotter than normal temperatures too. Todays 60ís were a welcome relief but high pressure is returning like a bandit with record breaking temps over 100 next week. The really bad situation is the extreme drought we are in. The winter snowpack was below normal. Iím concerned our well could dry up. Our governor asked everyone to pray for rain.

Here in Southern California we are looking in several days of 99 degrees next week, some days at 104-106! The hottest that I have ridden in here was 106 with mesh jacket, helmet, and light gloves! It usually IS a dry heat here!

We were in Moab in March and I had my little used weather ap set for that region. When I turned it on to look at what was coming since the whole week looked like it was to be over 100. Good luck and stay cool!

Not to not rain on your parade but I've been reading a lot of white papers that hypothesize that the Southwest has moved from mega drought to permanent drought.

Anywho, here's to hoping your "Pray for Rain" days work out better than Rick Perry's "Pray for Rain" days.

As someone who is much more comfortable riding under freezing than over 90, I was excited to see that this year's cannonball is a northern course. I fear that the western days of the run may still do me in. I really have to turn my way of thinking around. I may be making 2am starts to dodge the worst of the heat.

Our temps don't vary that much over the year but the humidity swings are what gets me. It takes a while to adjust to humidity based on my experience. When I moved here from the desert it was about 9 months before I acclimated so I feel for you guys/gals that get blasted with short term yucky weather. You never get to really "get used" to it.

If it's any help, it will be cold in Eureka when you get there.

Here in the Tropical Tip of Texas, most days lately have been in the upper 80s... with 12,000% humidity. It makes for a heat index of: "Oh my God, I'm melting!" There is some relief at night when the temperature drops 4 or 5 degrees... I'm kidding: there is no relief; the humidity goes up at night. We've lived other places, and I always felt I was an island boy, able to tolerate heat better than cold. So... I was wrong.

For the record, I have been in Minnesota in the summer. And in the winter. Our daughter went to college in Mankato. Who knew you could have a heat index that makes ours look moderate?? And, temperatures in the winter approaching Absolute Zero (-460ļ F)?? You Minnesota people are tough.

I would be inclined to ride nekkid here if not for the chance of death by sunburn. Or, the world's worst case of road rash if getting off hard. I wear a long sleeve CoolMax shirt, riding jeans (with armor and Kevlar), boots, gloves, and a Nolan N-70 helmet. I can't take getting out on the bike after about 10:00am these days.

Just like we used to write in yearbooks back in the day: Stay cool!

I am personally well insulated. The coldest I have ridden was 7degrees Fahrenheit. 5 degrees and I just couldn't do it. I'm not worried about cold. (though I will pack one long sleeve shirt) I am going to just melt when we get to the west!
