am half-heartedly researching 13 inch wheels for my GTS Supertech.

maybe these https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/rim-sip-series-pordoi_MV650814

would also have to make up mind what tire sizes ...

original sizes
front 120/70-12 diam 18.6" width 4.7" sidewall 3.3"
rear 130/70-12 diam 19.2" width 5.1" sidewall 3.6"

sip recommended for their rims
front 120/70-13 diam 19.6" width 4.7" sidewall 3.3"
rear 140/60-13 diam 19.6" width 5.5" sidewall 3.3"

have seen other people use
front 130/60-13 diam 19.1" width 5.1" sidewall 3.1"

note the original front is .6" smaller diam yet sip recommends using same front+rear diam. probably why some others have used the 130/60 to get approx the original axial height difference front vs rear.

Is a half inch diam increase really worth it? Desire: betteer handling at higher speeds. Can live with the slight lost of accel

thoughts?

interesting. as I never seen feedback on using such tall tires.

only seen the 130/60-13 used. slight loss of acceleration. excellent stability improvement.

vespa has likely considered many times over 13 wheels for the gts. it works phenomenal on 12s.

keep in mind you have like 30 tire choices in stock 12in sizes for vespa. and like three choices when u switch to 130-60-13. however the shinko sr425 is to date the best tire I have ever used on any scooter. I own seven different scooters and try most all tires available. the tire has no flaws. smooth, quiet, sticky wet and dry. and with INCREDIBLE long wearing compound. I have one scooter that uses 130/60-13. the rear of my 180 dragster. bike came to me with new michelin city. I ordered the shinko for the bike. not gonna waste my riding time on the CG. the shinko IS that much better. downside, tire is J speed rated.

when you say only the 130/60, do you mean front and rear? 130/60-13 has got a 19.1 diam and the standard rear 130/70-12 has 19.2 so being smaller should effectively increase accel ... ?

J speed rated, hmm not so good. J is 100kmh and there's enough 110kmh highways around here that it's feeling a bit close for comfort

yes front and rear. the difference is minuscule. there are far larger differences that exist in reality from the same size tires from manufacture to manufacture. tire manufactures are simply not regulated to produce the exact calculated size. as a result you usually get less rubber. driven by bigger profits for the manufacture.

revs per mile data is the accurate way to compare actual sizes. even that can be skewed by different rim widths and tire pressures run that change the value. and last that data only applies to new tire. the number goes up fast with tire wear.

tire speed ratings . not gonna get in to it. in short tires do not fail when speed ratings are exceeded. actual tire failure speed would be something like triple the speed rating. it is important when you talk about law suits and politics. walmart was the first place I ever had trouble getting a tire mounted. they only mount the manufacture correct size for vehicle. and they wont mount tire on aftermarket rim even when tire is correct size.

no one else got a comment?

fyi I was thinking the 130/60 front and 140/60 rear because the original had a smaller front. This would result in keeping approx the original rake.

Currently using Pirelli Diablos and would probably stick with them.

I am a long way from needing new tires but I'm eager to know how you like the bigger tires and the difference they make. Please do keep us updated.

My experience over many years of motorcycling (but not scootering) is that you should stick with the recommended front tyre width. 130 is significantly wider than 120 and will introduce more bump-steer when leaned over and may make the steering heavier.
