Nelluch here again....

px125e with DR180 kit sip road 3.0 pipe.
20mm carb 160/Be5/115
Drilled air filter.

I plan on doing a 3 day trip. All back roads. Is it worth to update my carb to a 24mm and jet appropriately in order to ensure safety of the cylinder? please note that I do not have the top carb port matched to the 24mm carb.

Or should I keep with the 20mm carb and ride away....?

Let me know.
Thanks again for your time.

I upgraded my 20/20 to a 24/24 on a p200 and there was no noticeable difference.

What is the benefit of drilling the air filter?

Apparently it allows more air flow into the carb. It's a simple mod to possibility gain half a kph. Lol.

I don't know if it makes a significant difference, but all my scoots have a drilled out air filter. Mostly bc I purchased them that way.

So just drill through the mesh? where the hole(s) should be?

If you do a search on Google or on this forum, you will find pictures of the air filter. Under the air filter is an area that looks like a heart. You are supposed to drill that heart out. Some filters come with it pre-drilled. Others not.
After a few searches I was able to complete the task. It's not difficult.

On scooterhelp for a p2 they did a dyno on drilled filter and found it increases HP by 0.5 ; with us lot clambering to get blood out of the stone with Vespas it's actually the cheapest mod going. Combined with a road 2.0 the dyno resulted in combined 1.5 HP more so bang for buck it's a good gain. You can buy the original piaggio air filters that are already unrestricted as standard. As I've said before a 24 mm on your rig, which is exactly same of mine is not necessary as I rev out with mine that has 24mm with less than 3/4 throttle at 64mph gps. So your 20mm totally sufficient to reach its max speed. It's a DR at the end of the day and won't break speed records but it will put life into the scoot and remain very reliable and also pretty good on fuel consumption if that's something you care about.

The heart drilled let's more air in and essentially leans out the jetting a touch. Most folks are running rich in certain parts of the rev range so leaning it out helps the motor accelerate cleaner which you feel the increase in performance. Super simple mod.

http://vespalabs.internetscooter.com/labs/lab-research/dyno-results/air-filter-hole-and-sito-plus

Here's another dyno showing impact of air filter drilling. Id say this is convincing. I read this that the power kicks in at a lot lower RPM, but total HP gain is marginal, less than 0.5hp.

Heres some info too about restricted versus derestricted filters.

I noticed on a new air filter stamped Piaggio, one of the jets is covered. That wasn't the case on the older style.

The "older style" filter is for carbs that use an idle jet without an air hole. Notice in the pic the idle jet has no hole. That brass opening circled in yellow supplies air to the idle circuit.

I noticed the "new style" carbs still have that hole, but without the brass opening. So in that case, should I use the "new" filter which block the hole just like Hjo has posted?
