Hi everyone
Hoping to use this forums expertise in identifying what was on this 1960 VBA scooter I acquired. Trying to keep this as original as possible and couldn't understand what was welded in the area circled in red. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance![/img]

Hard to tell from this photo but is it a hole that has been filled with weld . I'm thinking the brown circle is the heat affected zone.

Exactly my thought! I said I will keep it original. Anyone have an extra jousting stick I can put on this?
Laughing emoticon
There are a few holes drilled in the front as you can see in the picture. Perhaps it was some kind of carrier mount? put on.

Maybe they drilled a fat hole to fit lots of electrical wire through to power all the mod lights they had mounted to the front rack those four leg shield holes were for?

Maybe it was one of those special French military paratroopers Vespas and that was the hole for the three inch recoilless antitank gun.

If thats the case you'll want that restored to original as it would be damned handy in rush hour traffic.

Never thought about it before, but if you look closely at those french military vespas, the canon sticks through leg shield just left of fork tunnel. The back end of the canon is below the rider's seat. This means to accurately shoot that canon, you have to turn slightly right to line up the target for attack. Also how do you reload? Pillion rider facing backwards grabbing a reserve from the leg shield and sticking it the back end? Or did they have to stop, get off.. jam it down the front with a push rod and get back on and set up for next shot? On top of all that.. the angle of aim on that canon is pretty parallel to ground, and the seat height of the vespa means that the usable range of attack is pretty damn close. This is a close quarters combat weapon. All I can think of is Rocket League now!

This makes me wonder if anyone actually ever used these things in battle? I always assumed they were never used in battle and just a proof of concept limited run for the military to test the idea. Pray that you don't have a misfire while sitting on it!

Never intended to be fired from the scooter. Two soldiers on a nimble Vespa 150 TAP go where needed over trails or whatever, dismount then unload and set up the gun in the usual way. But the myth lives on...

Terry that is awesome! I've actually never seen it set up for shooting before, and always just assumed it was a mobile weapon. I love how the back end opens out with another wheel to act as support. Although, I still think it would be pretty entertaining to see someone try to shoot while driving! ha.

Its a recoilless gun... basically a big bazooka.

More rocket launcher than gun then.

Load a round (rocket) in through the back, button it up and let fly.

My brother was trained on this type of weapon when he was in the forces... he said it wasn't an indoor toy.

Ah yes you are right. I was looking/replying in the middle of working and didn't notice it was a separate trailer. Still love it!

I wanna make a replica now, except for the fact that it would be criminal to chop up the original models frame to make it!

Ejecting from this thread now that I've totally derailed the OP's topic.

The PAV 40 trailers were originally made by Jawa in the Czech republic. They can still be found, at a price. Spare parts for them are available. Repops of them have been out there every now and then as well.

That's a great looking trailer, would look good behind my Allstate.
