I am putting together a new airbox for. aP200. How do I remove this sleeve/race for the old oil pump so I can put it in the new airbox? I can't seem to grab it with pliers or pull it out with a hook.

It can be a real pain. It took me a while to get it out of my p2 carb box a month or so ago. I ended up having to really heat up the box where it sits from the outside. More than I really wanted to heat it up, but eventually it was enough to finally get it to come out with lots of wiggling/twisting and pulling. Use a torch, some gloves and a needle nose plyer. Careful not to gouge the tunnel it sits in. I made a few marks on mine which I ended up sanding out, cause I reused my carb box.

Also had quite trouble getting it back in after cleaning. The tolerances were really tight even without the rubber seals on it. So I figured what the hell and ripped some thin strips of 320 grit and just sat there for half an hour or so spinning the hydraulic pump between a loop of the 320 grit in my hands. Checked every few minutes how tight it was to get back in.. and eventually got it to the point where it would go in with effort and wiggling, but not tons of effort. Just enough where it will still be somewhat tight when I put the rubber gaskets back on.

My stella/lml oiler pump wasn't nearly as tight tolerances as it came out and went back in with so much less effort. That one doesn't leak, so I figured a little sanding on the p2 pump could only help my sanity getting it back in.

You can also reclaim the bearing and spring from the other hole. Maybe the plastic bushing if you are lucky, but they get soft and fall apart when I tried removing it. So I bought new plastic bushings from Scooter Mercato to replace the one I destroyed getting the spring and bearing out.

I got it - the trick, at least for mine, was to put the gear back in without its spring and then pry the gear back up with a pick tool...when I did that the entire assembly came out. It seems the residual oil produced a really heavy vacuum seal and that's what the issue was. There's a robot video that covers it on the scooterwest YouTube channel I found after posting...also a big help

But you're right - really tight tolerances. I'm just glad I didn't fuck it up in the process.

Post a link to that video. I'm curious to see exactly his trick. Haven't seen that video of his yet.

If your trying to get that piece out of the center, try using a large wood screw or lag bolt. Thread it in partially and pull up.

Nice vid, but I didn't see the part where he used the pump gear to pop the pump housing out of its seat. His came out and went back in way easier. I also noticed that his pump housing only had 1 o-ring, whereas both my lml and p200 pump housing have 2 o-rings. Makes me wonder if the pump housing in my p200 is original or an LML replacement? Or maybe by 1980 they had changed the pump housing to have 2 o-rings. When I said I sanded down the hydraulic pump to fit a little easier, I was talking about the pump housing with 1 o-ring in his vid. Not the pump gear plunger that sits in the housing.

Still a cool and useful video for those who haven't taken theirs apart yet!

Also, if you weren't aware yet, the pump o-ring is the same as the clutch arm o-ring.

Mine is the same as yours - two o-rings, and yeah, having a couple clutch versions in my cabinet of overbuys came in handy.

I didn't mean to suggest he used the pump gear - that was my own brainstorm. But the video gives good insights nonetheless; the whole series on that bike is good.
