I bought a used, parted ET3 engine in hopes to rebuild it. I'm having difficulty dry fitting this crank with bearing into the flywheel side race.
Should this bearing just pop in? Or does it need to be assembled in a special way? From what I've read, it should fit simply.

Is it the right bearing for the race (by looking at it)?

I appreciate your help.
Thank you.

It should slide in easily if it's a 2 part bearing. It's hard to tell from the photo but is that outer race flat or does it have a groove in it.

The outer race that is in the flywheel side casing has a little groove. I believe it it's a skf n204 race.

I have used Nu204 it should slide in, yours is a n204 but same principle as its 2 part.

Was the engine together when you got it or in parts? It could be you have 2 halves of 2 diff bearings..

The crank was outside of the case with the bearing still on the crank.

You're probably right. Two difference pieces of a two piece crank.

The bearing part doesn't fit into the race. Even with a bit of pressure.

I might as well buy a new bearing.

Any recommendation on how to Remove the race on the inside of the flywheel side case?

I use a puller that expands and plenty of heat. I know greasy also says you can weld a bar across the race and that tends to shrink it too.

Can you show me a picture of the puller you use?

I may attempt it. Thank you!

Ah. So something like a blind bearing puller. Ok. Thanks!

I'll see what I can manage!

Is it possible to install a standard roller bearing in the flywheel side case on this et3 engine? Or does it have to be a 2-piece bearing?

yes, it's a 6204 bearing.

there are arguments on both side of using a 2 piece vs a standard roller. I like the 2-piece because it installs easier and makes disassembly easier.

NU204 SKF Explorer is the one to get. but if you're set on a standard roller the 6204 won't do you dirty.

ETA: you got it all taken apart, so I'd trust nothing and refresh EVERYTHING with known, good parts. I'd wager to guess that there correct race for that bearing is kicking around with the other parts, but honestly, I'd be suspect about running it.

blind bearing puller and some heat, or weld a big washer, nut or bolt to it and knock out the old race.

Thanks greasy.

If I stayed with the 6204 bearing, how do you install it over the crank?

Thanks.
