The last owner decided to put the inspection sticker right on the body panel. I tried to remove it and of course, residue in the form of big "void" wording remains. I tried alcohol to no avail.
Would goo gone be my best bet?

I would try Simple Green first, and then try GooGone when SimpleGreen inevitably fails to make any impact whatsoever.
That said, you should definitely test the GooGone on an inconspicuous spot first, as it might leave a mark. |

You might try heat from a hair dryer to get the plastic film off, then Goo Gone on the residue.

Ok thanks for the tips. I have a heat gun and will put it on the lowest setting and see how it goes.
I, too, am doubtful simple green will work. Would ammonia cause harm to the plastic? I think I have windex with ammonia. |

I would avoid ammonia. And really keep the heat low. Hair dryers are probably safer than a heat gun.

For glue residues use hot water and rub with your thumb, do not scratch with your fingernail.

I took the stickers off my new Vespa using a hair dryer. Heat up a corner and start pulling off carefully while heating the remainder of the sticker. Worked great, but left some glue residue. Goo gone did nothing to the residue. WD-40 worked great to remove the glue. Just use a dab to dissolve the glue and clean off with a soft towel. I then washed the area with mild soap and water to remove any remaining WD-40. No scratches or damage to the paint or finish. Good luck.

Well, sprayed some WD40 on it and tried to scratch it off with my fingernails. Didn't work very well.
I don't know what the stuff was made of. It wasn't glue. It was hard to the touch and not really sticky. Fingernail approach did work but it would've taken a couple hours. So I tried the heat gun. Low setting, and put it on there for 10-15 seconds at a time. Spray with WD40 then used a plastic tire lever with a flat edge to scrape (credit card may have worked better). Got it all off in a couple minutes.
