I know many of you folks have GoPro cameras, or other such small action cameras.

The emphasis on the word small

So what I've done is lost my trusty, if somewhat old GoPro. By loosing it I actually mean, very probably, misplacing it inside our house.

It always, always stays in the same corner of a bookshelf. In a tiny slot that remains between the books and the actual shelf. Except now there is only the small piece of charging cable left

Having gone through a few other possible places (like the box where I have the various chest, handlebar etc. mounts... the place where I have my antique digital cameras and a bunch of memory cards... a few other books shelves, just in case) I've realized it will be virtually impossible to find a matte black object, size of a matchbox from within the very non- feng shui interior of our house! I mean, we do have a relatively good general order in the house, but lots of bookshelves, cupboards and such nice hiding places.

Any hints? Like special metal detectors dedicated to find lost GoPros or something...

Move house. You'll find it when unpacking in the new house. Strangely you'll *not* find it while packing

Once you find it you could use something like this:

https://www.thetileapp.com/en-us/store/tiles/sticker

Finds Mrs. CLE's car keys on almost a daily basis... of course it assumes we can find her phone...

I feel for you! Every once in a while something goes missing and it kills me trying to find it....my set of GTS keys took 6 months (though winter was a bit of a factor there) to find. Family record goes to my wife, however who misplaced her car key for a year or so. Finally found it in her purse. Somehow she neglected to notice there were two compartments. Of course they showed up after finally replacing it.

I hate when that happens. And it happens a lot. And before anyone invokes the "it's hell to get old" missive, it's been happening since I was a teenager. Me and my stuff have always seemed to soon be parted. Tools especially. Cameras not so much. Batteries often.

Just a few days ago I was frustrated because I couldn't find the Moleskine Journal I use to write drafts for Scooter in the Sticks. I just had it. I was certain it was here somewhere, on my desk, in my desk, in a camera bag, in the topcase.

I looked and looked. And then I got a phone call. Someone found it laying in the road down the street. For that journal I put my name and phone number inside. Not so with my personal journal. If someone reads that crap I don't want them knowing who it belongs to.

Anyway, I arranged to pick it up, a nice woman in her 70s out for a walk. I can only assume I put it on the roof of the car for some reason and drove off.

So did you put you GoPro on the roof of your car??

made me think whether this is a subtle hint indeed - especially as my wife proposed the same solution, perhaps a bit too quickly.

Can't blame her though - she actually did find the cam!

For reasons unclear to me, the cam was stashed under some books in a wrong bookshelf. It was nearby the normal place, so all I can think is that I've been interrupted by something while putting the cam away the last time and, for reasons and logic unknown, put it into a temporary place...forgot all about it and it has since gathered books on the top of it while remaining unnoticed - being a small, black object in a dark wood shelf.

Phew, no mowing the house ahead, yet....

So far I've been spared from this classic. Probably pure luck.

Once, when I lived in the previous place and had an indoor garage, I forgot a power drill behind the car on the floor. And ran over it while reversing the car from the garage, a 100% hit with the rear tyre Facepalm emoticon

This is a good one too.
My first thing to check was that the cameras was not in any of the various cam holders.
