I have a Vespa I bought brand new for my wife in 2012 . It is the light blue LX150. It has 43 miles on it and has been sitting in my climate controlled storage unit for the last 6 years. How much are these things worth if I try to sell it? Some guy, my father in law knows, offered me 2k cash for it. I live in the Philly area for reference. Thx. I'm in no rush to sell it I just don't want to be getting ripped off if 2k is a low offer.

I'm not an expert on pricing things, but just keep in mind there are some possible issues to consider which may affect what a reasonable price for such a bike might be.
It may have super low mileage, but if it's been sitting unused, there are going to be a decent number of bits and bobs that will need to be checked out, if not replaced entirely. While some parts are considered wear-parts that need to be replaced due to use, others tend to just rot or get too stiff or otherwise potentially problematic if they aren't used. Climate-controlled storage helps, but it doesn't stop time. These scoots are meant to be ridden. So any potential buyer is likely going to have to spend a few extra dollars or some maintenance time immediately after getting it. If I was seriously considering buying it, the first thing I would do is get a new battery. Whether or not you have the master brown key is also a huge deal when selling any modern Vespa over 50cc. |

Hard to know but at the high end I have looked at kelly blue book to have an idea where to adjust from. Also facebook marketplace and craigslist to see if there are any listings to judge by.
For my area here is a search result. https://www.kbb.com/motorcycles/vespa/lx-150-ie/2012/?pricetype=retail/ |

Cool, thanks for your response. I have all the keys. I'll give it to him for the 2k. I did disconnect the battery when I stored it away. So maybe it will work for him? I know nothing about scooters.

I would be absolutely shocked if the battery worked at all. You could try putting a charger on it and see what happens but you likely need a new one. Has it been sitting with the same fuel and other fluids for 6 yrs? If so I would not even attempt to start it without removing and replacing the gas and oil first. Actually you said it was in storage for the last 6 yrs but you bought it in 2012 - 9yrs ago- so the battery is presumably 9yrs old as well as anything else in the scooter. Definitely get it serviced before trying to ride it. It also needs a critical service- tire replacement. At 9yrs of age those tires are dangerous to ride on. Don't take it out without having them replaced.

There are lots of 10 or 12 year old scooters with only a few hundred miles on the clock. They don't have a lot of engine wear but they do suffer from simply sitting unused. I'd say yours is no different in value from any of those. I'd suggest you start with checking Blue Book / NADA values and comparables in AutoTrader and other for sale listings.

Just a reference...I bought my 2012 LX150 3 years ago with 4k miles on it, in very good condition, actively but responsibly ridden. I paid $2000 also. So 3 years later I would say $2k for yours is fair.

You are doing the right thing. Better to sell something and regret it, then keep it and regret it.

Ignore the experts with the thousand dollar lists of things they claim absolutely must be done, but really aren't necessary. It sounds a little like your father in laws friend knows all of them, and they're working to help him get a deal. Drain the gas, or, if it's got less than a quarter tank, top it off and stick in a battery. if it starts and runs, you easily have a $3000 scooter, especially now and where you are located.
I, and just about anyone who knows these bikes, would jump at the chance to pick this one up for 2K and flip it. In a retail location, it would sell in the high 3s. Anybody who thinks kbb or the nada guide have any bearing on what your bike is worth doesn't understand what those books are. |
