After almost 6 whole weeks with my Primavera 50, I am wondering, just a little, if and what would I get next.

My first bike may be all I need. I'm thinking maybe next year, if at all. It's just fun to day dream. The 50 is a starter and I knew that. I bought it with the intent to get one that would be easy to sell or trade in and here in Florida the 50's sell fast and we have no winter.

My next step is to get my motorcycle license.

My scooter use, will be modest. No long touring imagined. But many local roads have 45-55 mph speed limits and my Vespa tops out at 42 mph. I like to tinker and would like to do my own maintenance. I like to buy used rather than pay dealer mark ups.

Would my next scooter be 125-150cc? I would assume that would be fast enough. What models have improvements that I would want? Fuel injected? ABS? After seeing the motorcycle video with ABS, I think I want it. Is there anything new in 2021 models that is must have? Or will a 2015-2000 model do?

Primavera 150?
Racing Sixties 150?
GTS 300 Super HPE?

Or you name it? So help me dream. Half the fun is the hunt! Thanks all.

I'd suggest the Elettrica. It is wonderful to zip around quietly, never having to bother with gas.

I also advocate for the GTS 300. It extends your wings to everywhere.

Enjoy!

I must admit I never considered the Elettrica but it's not a crazy idea.

62 miles of range? That would work for much of my use but it is a limit. The 45 mph max is also limiting.

What has your experience been? How long does it take to charge?

Thanks much

I've only ever had a 300, but it's also what I would recommend - particularly if the roads you ride on are 50 MPH+. Unless money is a dealbreaker, why worry about a top speed?

How about a Genuine Buddy. The 125cc is a very good scoot with lots of performance and esthetic upgrades available.

Want to be safe? After bike lic. try 300cc nice not to be roadblock or get run over----this comes from daily riding since 1955, over 1.5 million 2 wheel miles, 400,000 of that with scooters.

I owned 2 LX150s. They topped out somewhere in the high 50s. I have owned 2 GTS. Both easily achieve the high 70s and have broken 80. Whether a 150 or a 300 is the right bike for you depends on where you intend to ride it. My preferred rides are on rural roads and more lightly traveled two lane highways. Any longer trip is likely to require some connector sections on a 4-lane highway. To me that all spells GTS as you really have to be able to easily keep up with most traffic wherever you intend to ride. In my opinion, the GTS is the best all-round scooter in a traditional design (10 or 12 inch wheels and full step thru).

Maybe off color for the forum but I have my eye on the Royal Alloys especially the GP300. I can't tell if/when they will bring it here but my need is in the future. I don't really "need" it where I live now but if I relocate to a continent it may be the first thing I buy. I am stepping away from motorcycles as I get older so a big scooter will replace that need when the time comes.

Looks like 2015 GTS 300 had ABS. Anything wonderful happen since 2015 to the GTS. Are they all fuel injected? Or what year did fuel injection become standard in the GTS?

HPE comes with better acceleration, ABS, traction control, LED lighting, and a snazzier looking legshield. It's 2020 or newer in the US. (Some markets got it early.)

I'm also on the get the 300 HPE team. It's a great all around scooter and can handle the freeway with ease when called on to do so. You mentioned Racing 60's 150, the line is also available on the 300's .

I've been very happy with my 300, but it's the only scooter I've owned.

For a second scooter, I wouldn't say no to something vintage. I enjoy troubleshooting and repairing things. I also like taking things apart to see how they work - I was doing that with door hinges before I could walk according to my mother.

Now, putting things back together is another matter...

A Vespa PX is similar to the hinges of a door as a mechanical complication ... Try servicing a radial aircraft engine, that's pure fun!

I would get the GTS 300, but once you have it don't be surprised if you decide to increase your riding distance they're just that much fun to ride.

I drive mine all over Austin. From far north to far south, from far east to far west. I've never found the range to be limiting.

I usually plug it in when I return home, and it is ready to go when I need to use it again. I find it much more convenient that stopping for gas. Plug it in when I get home, and forget about it. I think time to full charge from 0% is about 5 hours, but I've never gotten close to 0%. After almost all my trips, it will top up the batteries to 100% in an hour or two.

With my normal use I can, if I chose, go a few days without plugging it in. But I usually do, because it is so convenient.

The quiet when riding is a game changer. It makes for a much improved experience.

It slows down a bit on steep hills, but I don't recall seeing many of those in Naples. .

I'm happy to answer any specific questions.

And 45 is max? It's true we don't have any hills here. But we do have roads with faster speeds.

The ones I listed were not meant to be an exclusive list.

I confess to being pretty taken with the "Vespa" magic at present.

Having said that I really like the technology of your Tricity. Looks very cool. Maybe I need to find room in my garage for my sweet current Vespa and add something radical like the Tricity!

I even am interested in the Royal Allow GP 300S. But I doubt there is a dealer here.

I know what I would get

Can't help loving Sei Giorni.
I liked the green one even better, but even a grey would do

This model could work for you too, as you're not aiming for touring, at least for now. A 300 cc engine.

Electtrica would also be very, very nice, but this would mean 80% of usage in low speed & short(ish) distance travel - I'm afraid the top speed would be just below what you'd prefer.

To the OP... your first scoot is for figuring out what you really want. 150cc will get you 55, but will be maxed out. If you are sticking with Vespa, go for the 250cc or 300cc models. Look for 2010-2015 GTS for a great deal. You have a scoot and plenty of time, so just be patient with your search and you will find something for a good price

Thanks Rdhood. Great advice. I know it. "so just be patient?".

That hasn't always been easy. Dreaming and searching is so much fun too!
