I dropped the bike to the right when negotiating a park on a humpy, paved road shoulder at my driveway entrance. It fell slightly down-hill. Luckily some passersby helped me upright it but the tilt-lock would not engage with no beeping sound.
On the stand it went and is now sitting at the road end of my hillside driveway.
Getting it back down the driveway is not possible (for me) without the tilt-lock function.

I tried switching both the tilt-lock switch and the kill rocker off and on.
What could have gone wrong?

Just tested it again next day and, when I turn the key, a continuous beep comes on for 6 seconds, goes off for 2 seconds and keeps repeating the cycle.

I agree. Unless it landed hard enough to dislodge a hose or a connection, it is likely that it is low on fluid or sucked in a bubble of air while it was down.

I checked for disconnects and there's non that I can see, so it looks like the reservoir is the issue.
I'll need detailed instructions on how to access and check it.
Can somebody help me with this?

Yes, I saw this before, but it didn't show the beep pattern I have.
Mine is a steady tone for 6 seconds-2 second pause-repeat

Additional symptom is that the oil light symbol flickers and off sporadically while this is happening.

Sounds like a electrical issue vs. fluid, mechanical issue to me.

Sinds the bike got a shock, check and clean the battery connections. Then reconnect the connections tightly.

Also, it is possible the battery got damaged internally due to the impact. In addition, if the battery is over 3 years old then you should replace it regardless with a good quality replacement unit such as Yuasa. Much longer battery lifespan can be obtained by continually putting the bike on a intelligent charger such as Optimate.

I once had a bike whose battery lasted 17 years, albeit continually being conditioned by a Optimate.

Yeah, the oil light flicking on and off at the same time sounds like an electrical issue.

There may be something loose or pinched after the fall. Time for a closer inspection.

All that is going to be inconvenient and awkward at the end of the driveway.

I don't know your situation but you really need to get it in where you can work on it.

So, my son got the bike back into the driveway off the roadside.
The bike starts and runs fine, so I don't think it's a battery issue.
The battery is less than 2 years old and was removed and put on an intelligent trickle charger through the winter. The bike started up perfectly first time this season.
The drop was a slow one with me trying to stop it until I couldn't anymore, so the impact was not a freefall except for the last second.
I still need to find how to proceed to check/service the tilt-lock reservoir.
The battery connections are tight.

OK...good, but weird, news.

I got to the reservoir, thanks to some images I found on the forum.
Right away I noticed that it was tipped on its single attachment lug.
I straightened it up, turned on the bike and revved the motor to about 4000rpm for about 15 seconds and then tried the tllt-lock switch.
Result: the lock worked perfectly, the warning light went out and the beep disappeared.

I have no idea why this worked, but am so relieved it did. I'm a long way from a service depot.

Uhmm, okay, that is weird.

The reservoir is just a bottle on the end of a hose. Adjusting the angle wouldn't make any difference.

Maybe moving the machine had some effect?

Keep an eye on it and let us know if the problem re-occurs.

Just a coincidence I think. More likely the removing the Y , screen , cover plates relieved something else.

After tested all found solutions without any success I gave up and contacted our local Piaggio shop.
They connected their test tool and found out that the part on the picture needed to be replaced.
I have ordered a new and installed it and now everything working just fine.

Thank you for sharing the story and part photo, thats good information to help solve the mystery that others might be having.

Do you have the part number or what was the part called on the order invoice? It sorta looks like the lower indicator display panel from the dashboard.

Having the part number would come in handy if my 2016 500ie (which is getting up in miles) ever has a similar problem.
