I've noticed a little buzzing that said "speedometer cable" to my, admittedly, untrained ears. Since I also needed to adjust the angle of my handlebars a little bit, from the time the shop didn't fasten them down after replacing my fender - a long story told elsewhere - I opened up the GTV's instrument thingy.

It looks like the cable housing has snapped off the clip that fits into the speedometer. Indeed, the first time I reassembled it, the housing slipped down, so the cable wasn't engaging at the wheel end, and the speedometer didn't work. I raised it up a bit, and retightened the cable housing clamp, so everything is working again, but at certain speeds, there is still a little buzzing.

My first question was going to be if it was supposed to be the way it looks in my photo, but I've convinced myself that the clip and the cable housing should not be separate like that.

The cable housing is fairly cheap, and I'm inclined to buy one just to make it right, but my second question is, should I be able simply to feed the new housing through, or is this one of those tasks I think will take ten minutes that will end up taking three hours?

My third question is, with everything lined up properly, should it really concern me that it's not as it should be, or will it keep working as is indefinitely, and it does not need to be near the top of my priority list

That is a strange cable housing. It's a 300 so it might be different than the 250. My bike the cable housing is screwed to the instrument panel. I hope somebody else can help you.

That is the other style - it looks a little more robust than the plastic clips such as mine. Scooterwest has the plastic clip cable housings for about $15. That seems more than worthwhile to repair just because, unless I have to take the bodywork apart to do it. If that's the case, and it's not going to damage itself further as is, I may just leave it.

Why not just to try to lift the sleave as high as you can and just tape it. Just saying.
