I am wondering if there would be any interest in having a Vespa owner's map on the forum. I have seen several threads where riders were looking for others in their area. Here is an example from another forum I participate in:

We actually had one at one point in the distant past. Not sure what became of it.

Looks like the original one was created by Steve, but is long gone. The link doesn't work any more.

On the CAMaster map, how do they control access?

As far as I know the only control might be that you have to be logged in, but anyone can create an account.

Now I remember. To get your pen on the map you have to send your information to the moderator. He verifies your serial number and then places the pin. I think that's how it works, but it's been 10 years since I put my pin on the map.

I think that's probably a non-starter for MV. We're a volunteer outfit, and the last thing I want to do is add more work for the mods. I'm also pretty leery of giving Google any more information on our members than they already have.

The better solution is probably to build something into the forum itself. It's an attractive idea, given an unlimited amount of time. Alas...

Yeah, it would be easiest if everybody could voluntarily put their pin on the map. But if everybody doesn't do it there isn't much point to it anyway.

That was ages ago and another thing I'd completely forgotten about. I think it had a limit of 100 or 250 pins or some equally small number. And didn't work well. I think Google broke the map usage a decade ago or longer.

I think I brought it over here from having one on over on Urban Scootin.

I had completely forgotten about it too. And yeah, I remember it being somewhat problematic. Fun at the time, though.

No worries.

Wow! Look what I found in my MV folder on my desktop.Apparently in 2007 I exported all of the map pins to a .KML file, which can be opened in Google Earth.

Strange what you find when perusing a folder you haven't opened in more than a decade! (Including a Modern Alien logo, a vintage style masthead, contact info for all of the moderators in 2007, my self-banning, a self-incriminating tutu photo, and more... )

I stumbled on the Modern Alien logo recently in my own cache of files. I can't for the life of me remember the context, though.
