My new to me 06 GT200 had one major problem when my boss gave it to me. The round cylinder that the lock and ignition fit into is so badly rusted that I can no longer put it all back together. I thought I saw the cylinder as a spare part but maybe I was wrong. I know it has to be welded on so maybe it was wishful thinking on my part. Any thoughts? If I hold the two pieces of the assembly together and turn the scooter on that works fine but I need a more permanent solution. Any way just to hot wire it and have a hidden switch, if so which wires? This is such a disappointment. Seems like some bad engineering dating way back. Any help and/or advice is much appreciated. Thanks as always, Tom

a picture would help immensely
yes everything is available separately including the welded on part. I'm guessing you've got one bad component and/or it is not assembled correctly. the engineering is fairly solid considering they've been using the same design going on 20+ years across several different bikes and brands. no, I will not tell you how to hotwire a vespa. mainly because it's easier to repair what's broken rather than kludge in some wiring nonsense. |

I completely understand Greasy about the hotwire part but I still can't find a part # for that welded on cylinder that the Block Lock (# 298903) and Key Operated Switch (#582951) go into. My neighbor, my go to guy doubts it's a part that's available because it is welded to the frame. Anyway he solved a large part of the problem by heating up the cylinder so we could remove the Block Lock that was stuck in there. I still need to get inside that cylinder and file out all the rust so the Block Lock will move in and out freely. It's really bad. Another question is how does the Key Operated Switch fit onto the back of that cylinder? Up and down or side to side? Thanks again guys.

For example (again, greasy mentioned this), the welded barrel can be purchased if needed: Broken Lock vespa 300 GTS But if it's not physically broken, it would have to be really bad to need removal and replacement, rather than cleaning. Again, we're back to the photos.

Thanks berto, that link is exactly what I was looking for. Shows the part number and everything. Scooter West shows they have 4 in stock. After looking at that picture of the broken barrel just imagine the back (the part closest to the front leg shield) being gone do to rust. It's at least half an inch gone. Now if my neighbor can just weld on the new one. You guys are the greatest.

So I finally just cut the old one off and used JB Weld to put the new one on. Works great except the fork lock doesn't work anymore. Oh well I have a big cable lock and it stays in the garage all the time. Thanks for the help guys. Now to my next project, an 08 MP3 250 that hasn't run in at least a year.
