Epic! Kind of had Cannonball-ish vibes. Clearly not the same league, but still, the drama....

A unique road trip, to say the least !
They can get drinks in a bar anytime with that story under their belts. It makes one question the need for 50mm front forks on dirt bikes and a whole number of other such "essential" features on current DS bikes. |

In many ways I feel this is much, much closer to the spirit of Ted Simon and such early biker world travellers than so many others nowadays. What I especially like is that it seems like Andre has genuily fun! Instead of approaching the travel as some kind of competition or way to torture oneself https://www.ridethatmonkey.com/en/andre-sousa/ |

Ted Simon visited South Africa a few years back on a speaking tour.
He was partly sponsored by our local BMW dealer. Ted Simon was asked: "If you were to do it again now, what motorcycle would you choose?" His answer was illuminating - A single cylinder light motorcycle no more than 400cc...! Having done ATW twice - once on a Triumph and again on a BMW R80 G/S - he knows from experience. Around this time there is a Lady named Noraly from The Netherlands (Holland to some) riding about in our neck of the woods. You can follow her on https://www.itchyboots.com/ She has ridden solo over 85 000 kms on four continents using inexpensive Dual Sport bikes. Currently she is taking on Southern Africa on a Honda 250. Do give her Youtube videos a look. Her Series 5 will let you see what wonderfully beautiful scenery South Africa has to offer riders. |
