I had a RAM mount on my scooter that eventually wore a hole through the GTV's leather seat.

It's not a bad hole, but I've been thinking I should patch it with something. I've thought of doing something as simple as filling it in with silicone. It is shallow and is right on top of the plastic of the saddle, (not much foam in between).

I've noticed both leather repair tape, and leather fillers, which I assume is like leather-colored silicone, available online.

Has anyone had any experience with patching a hole in a leather seat? It's up along the seam that runs along the back edge of the saddle.

A photo of the hole could be helpful.

Ouch, that really hurts!

I'd pull the seat off and give it to the local shoemaker, if you can find a good one those guys fix stuff like this for a living. The fix would likely involve a patch, but they should be able to match the colour and it would at least keep the hole from tearing out larger.

I saw a similar hole on an expensive shoe repaired recently and it was hard to see where it was when he was done... cost about 60 bucks and made my old Mom happy as hell to boot.

I'm curious what kind of RAM mount rubs the seat? Aren't the mounts typically up near the bars?

I'll bet it hits the mount when the seat is up. Easily not something you'd think of during installation.

It was one of those ball joint mounts that bolts on with the rear view mirror holder. It has a square bottom, and the seat hits a corner when you flip it up. I did not notice that was where the damage was coming from until it was done. The other side, where it just hits the bar, is wearing slightly. I am now more gentle about opening the seat. (And I got rid of the mount.)

I've got the optional GTV type seat on my GTS, while the light brown leather looks great against the yellow finish of my bike I do find having a seat that can't be left out in the weather to be a major pain in the ass.

There is something satisfying about rubbing the seat down with mink oil once in a while... kinda kinky like....

I have emailed our local shoe repair place. They've been in business since 1974, so they must not be too bad, though they are also the only game in town.

The other thing I was thinking of was something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Coconix-Brown-Leather-Repair-Couches/dp/B07QP18TS2/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=coconix&qid=1624974926&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFJNVUwTzI4QjYxU0gmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAyMjU4ODgxR05OQzEySDVEN1JBJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0ODEwMjIySVFIVTBUV0NMWlA3JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Or simply dabbing some 100% silicone in there. But, maybe a patch from a shoe repair place would be best for long term.

I'll report back what I learn from the shoe repair folks.

You don't need to. The forum will resize down to the maximum allowable dimensions.

(Unless it's over the maximum upload file size, which is a different issue).

I'd put a cheeky seat cover over that seat. Suzy does incredible work.

I took a look at her website and read past threads about Cheeky Seats. That seems like a very good option that would probably not cost that much more than taking the seat in to my local shoe repair shop. And it would certainly be less messy than my trying to fill the tear with filler. Thanks for that recommendation.

I am a big fan of supporting your local cobbler if you are lucky enough to have one! They are the bees knees, and dying out! If they are still in business they are good and probably exceedingly exceptional at what they do.
