Hi all. Am new to this forum and got myself a '76 Vespa Sprint 150 a few months ago and decided to upgrade to electronic ignition with the BGM kit that comes with the BGM HP 2.5 stator.

I'd hardly used the scooter and on the only time I rode on it on a 30 mins journey, the lights all went out by the time I got home.
To my dismay, 2 of the smaller coils were burnt and the bobbins melted.

The weird thing I cannot understand is the way the lighting coils are connected to each other. I have always thought that these coils are supposed to be connected in series. For mine, the 2 bigger coils are connected in parallel with each other with one end in series with the smaller coil and then to the blue wire (output), and the other end in series with the other smaller coil and to ground.

I just bought some copper wires to rewind the burnt coils and was wondering if I should rewire all the coils in series or stick with the existing setup (and wonder if this was what caused the coils to burn out).

Nicely seared to perfection. Throw some Worcestershire sauce on it, and you're set for dinner.

You need to get together with MJRally for a BBQ party😄.

Ha! I couldn't figure out the winding process either. I tried comparing it to the original Piaggio equivalent but no dice. It worked so I gave up and moved on till it fried itself.

I was looking at pictures of the older BGM stators online and they look like they are connected in series. The parallel coils can give more current and i m guessing that the smaller coils had their insulation slowly melting off as the larger current passes thru them...and slowly turn from a supply coil into a load itself.
