My wife and I are proud new owners of a 2005 GT200. Was hoping for a GTS but times being as they are (hardly anything reasonable for sale around here) I'm happy and we got a good deal.
The bike: Ad said needed a battery. And when we got there it was on a charger. Owner hadn't started it in over a year. I wasn't going to even try to start it, but he had drained the tank and put in fresh gas that morning. Ok if you want to start it, it's not my bike.
Started and ran ok, a little stumble in the idle. He adjusted the idle screw and it picked up and seemed ok. Took it down the street and back, ran nice and smooth. Parked and it idled fine for a good 5 minutes. Shut off and electrics were dead. Battery is a bricked advertised, but everything else checked out ok, service records, good rubber, paint was great, fuel lines looked ok, no leaks, brakes were good too. All in all a smooth and easy ride. So we bought it.
It made the drive home without issue but we did pause for some rain. I did notice the idle was too high after warming up, it would want to rev away and the back wheel was spinning. (I read a post here already about rebuilding/replacing the carb for this issue)
I should mention, we do own a Yamaha Vino 125, and a couple other bikes so this is not our first scooter, but our first Vespa. Sooo much learning will ensue I'm sure!
Lots of maintenance items to go over in the next couple weeks, but this forum has already been immensely helpful in reading old posts and user experiences.
So thanks in advance for all the help!
Now to clean out that carb...
