So during lockdown I got into craft ales and I found that I really like New England pale ale. They tend to have a hazy/cloudy look and have some citrus type of flavour to them. There are a number of breweries here that produce these but wanted to see if anyone had any good recommendations to look out for?

It sounds like you are describing a New England Style IPA.
They are popular everywhere now. All of the local craft breweries have them. Cigar City has several IPAs. Jai Alai and the hazy Fancy Papers are available, maybe even in London. (I have seen Jai Alai served in Switzerland). You can probably find Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. But there must be some British Breweries making the stuff now. Good luck. Bill ![]() |

We threw a party when I retired. Several people left suggestions for my waning days. On read: Drink a craft beer in every state.

Meh. Hazy IPA isn't a New England thing, per se. The best I've had is Pinthouse's Electric Jellyfish:
Electric Jellyfish IPA ABV: 6.5% Brewed with some of our favorite new hop varieties from our favorite hop farmers - Citra, Simcoe, Chinook, Ekuanot, Azacca, and Galaxy. Electric Jellyfish is filled with a bright tropical citrus character along with notes of orange, mango, lychee, and a floral backbone. The Jellyfish is a hazy new school IPA focusing on the juicy hop flavor and aroma while keeping the bitterness balanced and refreshing. Many prefer their Training Bines, which is a bit more hoppy. https://pinthousepizza.com/lamar/beer Hazy IPA's have become so mainstream, even Sam Adams is offering them. But the great ones are great. |

Ah, finally!
"This is the IPA for 'I don' t like IPAs' I've been waiting for this IPA thing to go away. Obviously, been waiting in vain. Motivated by this post, I checked out some local and Swedish variants of New England IPAs. Yep, going to the right direction. Before these, a bit of oddball among IPAs, Lagunitas IPA from California I did find interesting. I've understood it's kind of a bulk brand (?), but if it tastes good and comes in handy bottles, I don't complain... Still like trad. English Ales and bitters, even stouts, but those seem to get little attention nowadays. |

One of my favourite beer memories was buying Heady Topper in Burlington. The Alchemist brewery publishes it's bottle store delivery schedule because the worlds number one beer (as rated by Beer Advocate) always sells out immediately. I booked my pre conference accomodation near to where the beer was going to be. Yes, I was flying 14,000km to ambush a beer delivery.
I wander in the recommended hour before the truck arrives, they tell me I don't need to be early so I go and buy some home brew ingredients I can't get in NZ and then eat delicious cake and drink mediocre coffee with some hippies down the road. Back at the shop with about 15 minutes to spare and the line is about 40 people long. They do a head count and a beer count and some math and ration the beer accordingly. I do a deal with the guy beside me because I didn't want to take 24 cans home, so end up with a very cheap dozen beers, most of which made it back to NZ (because you can buy it at every bar and restaurant in Burlington without making an appointment). It was OK. ![]() |
