Remember when the correct oil for your Vespa or Piaggio was Agip, and then it changed to Castrol? What engineering changes were made to the engines that year to make Castrol motor oil better suited for them than Agip? Can you use Castrol oil in the engines where the manual recommends Agip, or will they instantly grenade? Can you use Agip in the newer Vespa engines, or will it hurt them?
Now imagine the person with these "very real concerns" walking into a Vespa dealership with fifty pages they've printed out from MV so the Service Writer can read them all and learn something. That's the private hell of being a Service Writer.

You may get a couple hundred miles down the road, but that bike's definitely going to explode. If you change it out now, to Agip or Castrol, depending on the year of the bike, you might limit the internal damage. Drain that stuff out now. No oil is better for these engines than Rotella.

meaningless info to most. I worked at porsche repair porsche race team in the 1980s. at the time porsches were king as far as performance goes. making seriously impressive hp from air cooled flat six engines. the shop had a dynometer and I was present the week one of the techs tested like eight different oils on the dyno. porsches had an oil capacity of 11 quarts. and the temps were as high as 270 degrees and considered normal. they did the testing because they wanted to find the oil on the market that produced the best hp and the lowest temps. I vividly remember the results as I cared about what oil I put in my home made air cooled turbocharged vw engines. I only remember the winner and the loosers. the best oil was penzoil. the worst oil in the test was castrol. I also remember the techs reaction as he drained the castrol. it came out like water. whats significant was at the time castrol would have been what everyone thought was the best oil. castrol ran the best advertising for their oil. they absolutely flooded peoples brains with effective advertising. yet the true reality was their oil was junk.

as a result of that testing I will never use castrol anything. to each his own.

No you don't.
Not anymore, anyway.
The idea that you hold a grudge like this 30-40 years after the facts were discovered is evidence of this. Things change, technology progresses, the best becomes outdated.

Question: Does Porche still install the same oil in their engines as they did in 1989?

you dont know me. you only think you do. I know from testing that in 1980 castrol was advertised as the best oil you could use. yet it was just the opposite. they were a business that only cared about profits. they didnt actually produce the best oil for your engine. you think they have grown up since then. I am not that gullible.

please buy castrol products. I am completely good on that.

I can't believe they tested with a dyno but didn't bother to see how big a boat would float in each oil.

Or maybe even do a teardown and look at engine wear. Oh wait, that doesn't matter for racing.

Who would’ve thought that oil would cause so much strife?

Oh, wait….

Locking.
