As mentioned in the Deal of the Day Thread... Poi Dog turned me on to a straight P200 frame for CHEAP. What was particularly appealing (aside from the price) was that Poi Dog had scored a cheap p200 motor in a parts buy during the early days of the pandemic and I had nabbed that off him for future use. So, this is what you would call a "PB&J resto".

The P200 has some surface rust and some floor rust, but nothing serious.
With the SS180 project at the media blasters waiting on the rains to stop, I decided to clean up some of the frame on this ghostly white P. Started with a good soap and water clean and then tried a clay bar. It worked, but... it was pretty tedious. Decided to kick things up a notch, and based on a some basic chemistry, decided to give apple cider vinegar a go.

The result.... pretty positive. The mild acidity of the vinegar does take some paint off along with the rust, but as long as you rinse with water and dry it's pretty harmless. You will smell like a Greek salad for the rest of the day... other than that though it worked a charm.

After everything was cleaned up we took the Ghost P200 to storage. It's hanging with the VBC and after the SS project it will be a tough call as to which one gets built out first. We'll see. All and all a productive Saturday in the garage.

top marks!

did you disguise the clay bar work by telling the missus she could get her work out on it? cuz that would be, like, epic status. yeah... yeah... just like, keep hitting that. I'm over here putting together a motor *cough* *cough*

but man, that looks aces! great job!

Man, that looks good. I wish you could find frames like that over here. Anything that old over here is usually rotten as a squishy peach. UK scooters with original paint are few and far between.

Happy 4th July too you all by the way.

Indeed. The supah will be a bit more of a lift with a 12v EI conversion planned and a full engine rebuild. But yeah, getting another 60/8” on the road is always a good thing.

Yes... We are certainly lucky to have some nice OG scoots around that are in ok shape. But, you guys have us beat by miles on Lammys and the more desirable Vespa models.

If you're looking for a touch up paint pen, BMW Alpinweiss II is super close to the P200 white.

Awesome 411. Gracias

Cowls were rattle canned a close match but will need a respray as will the fender and head set upper. So, will try and sort the glasurite color. Will use the BMW white as a back up for sure!

If anyone knows that piaggio paint code holler!

I had this bike and same. Someone just used white spray paint.

I tried a few paint pens from the auto parts store, and the BMW one was the closest.

The original code is much better.

I had Glasurit mix up some Biancospino 715 to paint the cowls on my SS180. Here's a picture of the single stage can with the code. I haven't painted the cowls yet, but it looks like a spot on match. I dabbed some on the tank to compare. Biggest issue is that it will be too shiny/fresh looking...

Cut the gloss with talcum powder.
Note it has to be talc and not some other BS.

I used talc to cut the gloss on my VNB cowl respray and it worked a charm.

Prob could Google "Glasurit Automotive Paint store near me" and call the stores to see if they mix the paint in house by using that paint code.

The BASF website has a list of dealers.
https://refinish.basf.us/where-to-buy/

The first one I ramdomly looked at had a Glasurit sign on their exterior (in North Hollywood). But I suspect they might not be able to find MaxMeyer formulas.

Its true. I've done electroloysis loooooong ago on a super rusty '60 Allstate; and some VW parts too. Worked like a charm! I may have to break out the ol battery charger again to keep up with the crowd
