here's some fun graphs from my bike yesterday

one pic shows that gps is so laggy that it gives very misleading results for acceleration.

why? 'cause I can only convince android to give me updates once per sec. look at the red vs green in the top part and you can see that the red (gps) doesn't start moving to almost 1sec after the bike speedo (green). "But the bike speedo is inaccurate" i hear you shout. yes but not here. what do I mean? I've calculated accurately enough that the speedo on *my* bike is 8% exaggerated so I reverse that (subtract approx 7.5% ) before graphing etc. how did I calculate this %? by comparing to the GPS when running at a steady speed in a straight line for several secs.

the other pic shows that I did get 3.1secs for 0-60 but am more consistent around 3.3-3.4. this graph is just for fun

when the belt and rollers were old (rollers had flat spots) was only getting around 3.7sec.
I don't have any good 0-100 data as it's so rare that I actually do this but I think it's approx 12 ish from the handful I have done

the fun you can have with data

notes:
* phone gps: pixel4a5g with android 11 but have also same results with other test phones. 1 per sec
* bike data: sampled at 10 per sec via bluetooth. should also work with other scoots with bluetooth such as the 75th GTS or Primavera Sport
* bike: 2019 Supertech APAC. has the snorkle style airbox not the classic gts airbox
* tires: pirelli diablo rosso at 29psi (rear) 27psi (front)
* bike mods: currently only Arrow exhaust
* temperatures: air intake 40-45C, weather 12C
* my weight: 67kg + bike gear
comparison

Hi,

Nice to see there is possibility to extract data from new bikes. I had to come up with my own digital dashboard https://github.com/rverzinkevicius/tacho_speedo which also has 0-50 km/h time displayed every time i accelerate from stop to 50 It has 5 magnets on front wheel for speed sensing, so it should be quite accurate. On my 125cc i get to 50 in about 4.3 seconds.

That's pretty cool. Sure I made my own app but doing the hardware yourself - nice πŸ‘

0-50 is consistently 2.5s for me πŸ˜€

Only in the last twenty years has the possibility of unifying the measurement system been realized ... The industrial world is moving in that direction.

We almost did in the 60s. Highway signs had both measurements, and they tried selling gas by the liter in a few stations. Then the US decided it wasn't worth the expense. A lot of industries, like lumber, switched to metric sizes but kept the US measurements when the rest of the country didn't follow, so now people can't figure out why a 2x4 isn't 2x4 inches anymore. Because it is 60x90.

Now we’re all satellite connected 24/7… One that shows the current speed limit differential would be great.
With Nixie tubes of course.

My Supertech dash already shows the speed limit when connected with my app.

But sadly not with Nixie tubes 😭

The ancient Romans had a technology that, although it did great works, turns out to be crude and primitive compared to modern technology that needs above all calculation speed and reduction to zero of calculation errors.
If you first learn the metric system, it is much easier. Everything is built on a ten base approach, so converting centimeters to meters is a simple matter. On the contrary, the US measurement system is often problematic. It is not consistent in its measurements, so the conversion is quite challenging.
For example, twelve inches equals one foot, but eight (liquid) ounces equals one cup. Sixteen (weight) ounces equals one pound, but three feet equals one yard. Children need to memorize a lot to perform the appropriate conversions.
Since children usually learn to measure in inches first, the metric system cannot be taught correctly until the multiplication skills are mastered. One inch converts to 2.54 centimeters, so anything above ten inches involves two-digit multiplication. This is a skill not mastered by most students until the next part of the third or even fourth grade.
If, on the other hand, the metric system of measurement were adopted immediately, children would probably learn it as quickly as they learn the American system. However, since real life examples are often included in the teaching, this would be difficult to do. If one buys a TV, they buy a 20 inch screen, not a 50.8cm screen. If you are buying milk, your choice is a liter, a pint, or a gallon, not a liter (L) or milliliter (mL) measurement.
In general, consumer products still adhere to the US system of measurement, as do American cookbooks, so these figures need to be known. In essence, this means that US children have to learn two systems of measurement and, unless they plan to export articles or become doctors or scientists, they may never fully master IS.
Unless the US government insists on converting products and teaching the metric system, the US is likely to keep its own measurement system. However, with increasing globalization it makes sense to consider that much of the world, and especially the scientific world, is based on the metric system.

All the advanced math practice with inches, feet, yards, miles etc is why America has superior mathematical application skills to ALL OTHER COUNTRIES!!!! Metric makes you weak! Managing a system that complex makes our kids uber-intelligent! It is part of our master plan to take over the world!!!

The city of Johannesburg is all laid out on a rectangular array of streets, except for Twist street, where the roads on each side do not meet. Problem was the surveyor on one side was working in English feet and the one on the other side used Cape feet.

When I started uni, everything was in CGS units - centimetre-gram-second. Then they switched to MKS units - metre-kilogram-second. So I had to learn a lot of new terms - Newtons and Joules instead of dynes and ergs. I still think of many things in CGS units - the speed of light, the mass of the sun, etc (Astronomy is a hobby of mine).

personally since it's winter and i'm currently in the mood for darker beers I'd find 277 not ideal (even though it's probably near that coming straight from the fridge) but don't hesitate to drink it. if it is still sitting in the glass long enough to reach 288 then I ain't drinking fast enough - must be distracted by MV 🍺🍺🍺
