I feel like crap for not thinking of that - it would have prevented you from getting into the battery compartment each time you needed jumping. That cable has a SAE plug on one end and alligator clips on the other end. It plugs in where your battery tender plug is - and the alligator clips go to the "donor" battery. Be very mindful of the polarity with this rig. For future Cannonballs - a cable with SAE plugs on both ends could go from scoot to scoot provided they both have battery tender leads attached. Best of luck to you, kiddo. Hoping it all gets sorted, and you get some rest. Talked to Louisiana who is on Carl's support truck last night. He said Carl has broken arm and broken pinky, couple cracked ribs. Korny is still in hospital in a Portland Maine. When he was not down broken ribs and punctured lung has him in cardiac care. Those are the only two serious injuries I'm aware of. A lot of scooter have had issues. At least 5 headlight bulbs have been replace. Electrical gremlins seem to be plaguing people this year, especially on the rainy first 4 days. From here on out it looks like we should be getting hotter and dryer. GoPam wasn't kidding about the mosquitoes last night in Marshfield. BTW, I highly recommend Hotel Marshfield, rooms, food and service were outstanding. The folks at PowerPac Equipment and power sports stayed open late with service techs, bratwurst, cheese curds and assorted beverages. So kudos to them

Be careful using an sae cord for connecting batteries together for a jump start. An sae extension cord typically has very light gage wires, 18 gage at most. A battery tender can use the smaller wire size because the charge rate is only a few amps. When trying to start your scooter the current draw is much greater than the rated ampacity of the sae cord. There is a reason jumper cables and the battery cables use a thick heavy gage wire.

I don't think it is for jump at eating so much as to run them in parralel or you think that won't work? I'm on the truck today so can check back her more often.

So, this is the first cannonball I’ve actually followed. In doing so I’ve learned something.
I really like riding. I also really like eating pizza. But I don’t think I’d like eating pizza as much if I were also being attacked by raccoons. In a hailstorm. And that’s really what this is. I have a whole new respect for this sort of riding and the people who do it. I tip my hat to each and every one of you. Oh, also … GoPam! GoPam! GoPam! GoPam! GoPam! GoPam! (Had to throw that in there.)

Well I’m out. Anyone interested in a dented 2019 Vespa Super that started the cannonball with less than 3,000 miles on it?

It's a little hard to tell from the photo (for me, anyway) but it looks like an electrical short in the harness somewhere near the spark plug? Scorched wires, and not field-repairable? Do you think the wiring was originally damaged in its earlier fall? |

A heads-up for the Cannonballers...
Hart Ranch is just off of Spring Creek Road, on tomorrow's route. One of the participants asked about fuel at Hart Ranch, and I let him know that it is a membership resort. I checked with management today, and they said they will be happily allow any Cannonball participant to come in if they need fuel. They only have regular unleaded with 10% ethanol, though (and diesel). But, if you can use it, you can come into the resort to get it. There is a guard shack at the entrance - let them know you are a Cannonballer. You can see the gas station from that entrance. If you need premium and prefer non-ethanol, there is a station on Hwy 16 about 5 miles sw: BJ's. It's where I usually stop to top off before coming back to the resort. It is on the west side of the divided highway. -------- Cheryl - sorry to hear that you are out. I know you have had a lot going on the past couple months. Know that you are still my hero. Best wishes to you and Steve, Jim

These potholes in the road have been insane. I hit one that knocked my front rack loose. I was so very lucky. It just drug to the side, no one on my tail and I was able to come to a safe stop. If that had gone under my tire... yikes! And that is where my rotopax is. It is banged up but completely intact.
It is now secured with a ridiculously strong ratchet strap that I check every time I get off the scooter. Which is a lot unfortunately. I'm definitely in the tourist category. But I cannot forego bio breaks. And I think I'm going to reroute around the 60 miles of dirt. That would be 4 to 6 hours of dirt for me. I willingly confess that is too much for me. So far this tourist is still on tour though. Yay!

Sounds like the US pothole situation is similar to the UKs, not good for us small wheeled folk!
And don't get me started on sunken ironwork and loose fillings! |

Sorry to hear about your situation cdwise.
You must be gutted. If the roads get worse I'll be getting concerned for the 2 Cubs (#103 and #173) with their trailers. Fingers crossed for you all on the second half of your journey. somerset |

Full maintenance, belt, rollers, spark plug, etc was done just three weeks ago. I can't see that being done and something as glaringly obvious as this being missed. Theory is some of those bad potholes and roads banged it about. Who knows, I sure don't. You could trace back and repair the wires if you knew what you are doing but it is far beyond my skill level or interest inlearning how. |

Is this what’s necessary to be at the top of the Cannonball leaderboard? Even tourists forego meal breaks opting for protein bars, nuts, nutritional and sports drinks Or gas station food that can be eaten with a helmet on. ⚠️ Last edited by cdwise on UTC; edited 1 time
