Modern Vespa

Nothing like what the Scooter Cannonballers are about to undertake. We have been in the Black Hills for two weeks tomorrow - we came here to enjoy riding the great roads for the next couple months. Being retired is my favorite job.

I have been shooting stills and video of our rides - yesterday, I used 2 360 cameras (one on the front of my Vespa, the other on the back of my wife's Xmax) to capture our ride to Mt Rushmore, taking all the fun twisty roads to get there. LOTS of video, so it was a labor of love to process and edit all that. Here's the result...

Are you referring to the characters on the scoots or the 4 Presidents carved on the mountain?

Iron Mountain Road is the Black Hills answer to Tail of the Dragon. It was designed with some beautiful features:

17 Miles
314 Curves
14 Switchbacks
3 Pigtails
3 Tunnels
4 Presidents (Mt Rushmore)
2 Splits

And all kinds of beautiful scenery, including views of Mt Rushmore through a couple of those tunnels. The splits are (guestimate) a half mile and a third of a mile. If we get caught behind a slow driver, we pause for a bit at the beginning of the split so we can have a good run! Nice thing about those splits: you aren't going to have some dumbass coming at you across the center line. We saw that a time or twelve when we last rode the Dragon; it happens on occasion here, too. It is about 20 miles from where we're staying to get to Iron Mountain Road, so we take it in several times a week. Lots of other good roads in the Black Hills, but they don't get the PR like IMR.
