Why am I not in the least surprised by such a range of musical tastes in the modern vespa forum. of all the groups of people I could think of to have eclectic taste in music scooter fans would be my number one guess because you have to be a little eclectic to like scooters right?

OK so I have four I want to mention. First of all I love live music and think it really shows talent to be able to do it live. One of the most underrated groups I can think of are the Go Go's and you only have to watch their totally Go Go's video of them live to see the talent. Not only do they bust out the tunes but keep on dancing in high heels the whole time. And the cover by the Human Waste project featuring Jonathan Davis, This Town

Then there is Maurice Williams with Stay and the Jackson Browne cover at the end of The Load Out.

A rock icon and influencer to many would be and very successful subsequent rockers Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground's live version with intro Sweet Jane and the very cool cover by the Cowboy Junkies.

And lastly my favorite version of this song. Again live. I was in the depths of despair grieving over the loss of a very beloved dog and I stumbled onto the Bangles version of You Were On My Mind and it really hit home, I couldn't get her off my mind or even dry the tears or talk about it for days. The only bad thing about loving a dog is losing a dog.

I'm sorry.

I'd like a tally of how many members actually make it all he way through. I didn't.

I for one am not going to torture myself with the attempt. So I guess you can count me as not having made it all the way through.

Point number 1. I don't, I never liked the Beatles.
Point number 2. Yoko can't sing.
Result. I didn't get past 15 seconds.
Thank you.

I am with you Syd I never liked the Beatles. Although I think it is safe to say that I liked them in 1964 but by 1970 I was totally and completely burnt out on them and my tastes had turned.

I like Paul McCartney and wings just fine but have nothing nice to say about Yoko so just like I learned from watching Bambi I won't say nothin.

I looked for the link and can't find it but remember reading an Interview with Ian Anderson in rolling stone just as he was becoming famous, way back when. Ian said he couldn't wait to see what new avenues rock and roll explored in the coming years. Another interview with him many years later (maybe 20) and he acknowledged that it was the same, although there were other veins so to speak it wasn't a different kind of music.

So we now cannot tell without some education and experience what century classical music comes from. All of the bugs bunny references could come from the same decade or be centuries apart and that was what Ian was alluding to with rock, If you take a young kid that appreciates music and play some Beatles for them the first time and then play some Green Day they have no idea these bands are three plus decades apart, it sounds similar enough just like classical music does to someone like me, I can't tell that they are centuries apart I just know its classical.

The awesome thing about this is what I tell my kids, I was there digging on it in the beginning of a whole new style of music. A genre that may very well have a lifespan of centuries and I got to hear it being born just like Ian.

I like Green Day but their first album was by far the best, and I can see all kinds of similarities to the Beatles who I really don't like.

I don't concur with Point 1 at all.
Same result.

Even symphony orchestras play The Beatles these days...

For a unique interpretation of The Beatles work, listen to the collection "In My Life" by Sir George Martin, their producer. He takes a few of his favourites and has them recorded by other artists - oftern in a very different manner. The title track is spoken by one of the most remarkable male voices ever - Sir Sean Connery. (RIP)
I played this to my wife on our 40th wedding anniversary...

(subtitled lyrics for those who battle with a Scottish accent)

There is a BBC documentary on the making of it - if you have the time.

I, erm, skipped ahead. Headache emoticon

Somehow I was reminded of Florence Foster Jenkins.... who inspired the Meryl Streep movie...

Thought I'd shared this already but can't find it....so here's one of my faves, Rhiannon Giddens channeling Patsy Cline...

I was just blown away by Dianne Krall's cover of Tom Waits "Temptation". I'm a drummer, and Jay Bellarose is my role model! What a performance. He just drives that train.....

I must correct you. It's actually a cover of a very old song by songwriter Mark James.
Elvis made a big hit of it but FYC actually improved upon it! Outstanding song and cover.

This goes back a ways, but I'd have to say my favorite is The Byrds cover of Bob Dylans Mr. Tambourine Man. IMO anyway, Dylans version was terrible, The Byrds version is one of my top ten favorites of all time. Roger McGuinn was absolutely amazing with his Rickenbacker 370 12 string.
