My country is weeping and angry at the same time.
Shocking rioting and looting of factories, megastores and warehouses in the province of KwaZulu-Natal has taken place. The unrest is being presented as "protests" against the imprisonment of a previous president, Jacob Zuma by order of the highest Court in the country - the Constitutional Court - for contempt of an order of that couurt for Zuma to testify in a Judicial Commission of Inquiry regarding corruption.

Do not be fooled.

This is simply criminal unrest fomented by agents provocateur who seek to overthrow the Rule of Law and place a cabal of Zuma and his cronies in power. Zuma has been quoted in the past as saying that no party in power should be subjected to a constitution to hamper it in governing the country. The vast majority of South Africans of all colours do not support this rioting. The criminals will not be allowed to succeed in overthrowing our Constitution. There may be bloodshed on a large scale coming, but the mobs who have even caused traffic jams on freeways trying to remove their stolen loot cannot be permitted to triumph. Their actions have destroyed the jobs that their neighbours had. They will have no food to eat in under a week - they stole what the supermarkets had on their shelves and burned the empty buildings.

I do appreciate the gravity of the situation. And truthfully, I don’t expect there are many people on MV who will have any kind of of significant stake in the politics that are involved. That said, this is definitely a political topic, and I think it’s better if we stick to the spirit of the rules here.
