Please read the FAQ, and preferably also the Wiki - much to learn in there.
e.g.: FAQ: Post Ratings and Karma , FAQ: What Are All The Ranks And How Many Posts Do I Need? , FAQ: How do I upload a photo? , to name but a few you might want to inwardly digest.

Let me be more direct: if the first thing you're concerned about is how many times you can give a thumbs down, then you're probably not going to have a very long (or pleasant) stay here at MV. And it's probably not going to be very pleasant for us, either.

You're a new user here. Please take a moment to absorb the general tone of the forum before you start slinging mud.

My avatars however ARE now showing fine for me both here and there ... I ended up clearing cache, logged out, Logged back in, and viola. Weird why that happened though, guess the site engine has a buffer/refresh flaw.

You were being gently told by the owner and Overlord of Modern Vespa that adverse criticism of his forum that has evolved over the years and works just fine is not the best thing for a new member to indulge in.

I have released the hounds, and they are now braying madly throughout the server, flushing errant image foxes from their holes.

I expect about 15,000 images are being deleted as we speak type. It will take a little while to work through each of them, one by one.

The find / delete / alter database cycle is a bit slow, and is done image by image. I've currently got it running at a rate of 50 images deleted every ten seconds so as not to adversely impact regular use of the forum. At that rate, it will take about an hour to delete all of the images.

I do hope it stops when it runs out of PM image attachments. Facepalm emoticon

You could use a link to an external image host but without uploading the final link (image) on the forum, everyone destinatary looks at the image by opening the host directly but warning on MP with an abbreviation (img?) that there is an uploaded image .

Or just another asshole from Florida.

I'd really appreciate it if someone who has actually lived in Florida could explain to me why Florida is the US capitol of unpleasant characters. Like, does Florida attract them, or is it something in the water that makes people unpleasant once they've lived there for long enough?

Maybe rhetorical…

I'm an older guy who spent 6th grade through college in FL, then left, returned a couple times for work, left again, and who has siblings/families currently living in FL. We are still FL residents.

I couldn't rule out the water in certain areas, but attraction is certainly a large part.

These days, more people living in FL are not native Floridians (only 36%) and it "ain't" the FL of my youth. I used to think I might retire there, but nowadays not so much.

I lived in Florida for a little over a year back in the early '90s. Bradenton, to be exact. I would describe it as hell, but they have these really cool little lizards. Anoles. I think they were the high point of my stay there.

I had a job pulling wires through attics, went through three cars and got mugged delivering pizzas. The heat and humidity were oppressive, everyone had fleas and don't even get me going on Palmetto bugs. They are like bats, but bugs. I spent most of my money moving there and the rest moving back.

I believe if I had stayed I'd be more surly. Good thing I didn't.

I wonder if most images deleted were emoticons? In public facing posts, the yellow scoot emote appears: Scooter emoticon
However, today, in a writing a PM, placing the yellow scoot emote, I received the attached code in image 1.
Then, a little trial and error in PM, I received the codes for various emoticons in image 2. Wha? emoticon

Attachments are different than the images for the emoticons. All attachments are stored in members.modernvespa.net, while all emoticons (as you've discovered) are in static.modernvespa.net. These two types of images are unrelated.

Only attachments were deleted from PMs.

OK, understood. However, using the various emoticons in a PM appeared with the code as an image. Of the few I tried, and appeared properly.

So, I'm not able to reproduce the issue that (I think) you're describing. Using any of the various animated emoticons produces the expected emoticon.

Can you describe in more detail how you got that result?
