Hi All,

My 2005 Vespa ET4 has 18k miles and we’ve enjoyed some great riding. However she’s been sitting in my garage for 6 years and hasn’t been ridden at all.

I finally have the opportunity to get her back on the road.

I have bought a new battery, spark plug, engine oil, oil filter and air filter- and plan to replace old w new this weekend.

I replaced the battery, but not surprisingly she won’t start up- all the proper things illuminate thanks to the new battery. I was a bit discouraged that it didn’t even make a peep when trying to start her. But I guess I deserve it for years of neglect!

Any advice in getting her back to life?

Thanks all!

Hello and welcome to MV!

Did you remember to hold down a brake lever? Kill switch in correct position? Immobilizer light off and not blinking anything odd?

I hope you get back on the road soon!

(Don't forget to change oil and brake fluid when you do!)

Hi Berto- thank you.

Yep, kill switch is off and I pulled the brake handles when trying to start. The brand new battery made the headlights, brake light and dash come to life. Will have to check on the immobilizer light and revert back!

I had a vespa et4 a 2001 and it sat exactly as long it turned out it was doing the same as yours is doing now i'm 98 percent sure its the starter even parked in a garage rust had formed on the inside and my brushes were very worn so the whole starter had to be rebuilt has to be the easiest thing to do on any scooter but especially the et4 just take off the bottom of seat and you can easily see the starter and easy to see all but one of three bolts very easy that issue will give you the result youre getting now fix it and let us know if that worked or helped please

When you get it running put some SeaFoam gas treatment in the tank. (remove as much old gas as you can and put some fresh in)
Voltage on the bike from the battery will drop when you hit the start button especially if the starter is locked up. Clip on a battery charger to the battery leave it on and hit the start button. Maybe the higher voltage will jolt things.
