Hey all, new member and owner of a 2005 Stella 2T.

My buddy that I acquired the scooter from lost the keys so I picked up new keys and barrels from Scooterworks. I have the steering column cover off and the harness for the ignition but I'm have been trying to depress the tang on the barrel in for about two flipping hours with no luck. I have used a micro screwdriver, 90 degree pick, and even a coat hanger to no avail.

Any ideas?

Petty sure on those you need to put the key into the cylinder when doing this and you may have to turn it to allow fitment. Have you done that?

I had to drill out the last one that came in with no keys. Not fun; but that is the way I went. Like you, I could never get to the tab for release.

Stromrider: I don't have the original keys but just tried sticking in a new one and wasn't able to get the lock body out. I'll try again later and just go ride my Kingpin today

GickSpeed: Yeah, I saw that in the service manual if no keys and the tumbler is set to lock but since mine is in the off position was hoping I was just being stupid and was missing something simple.

Kinda sounds like time to get some fresh drill bits.

Thanks guys!

From the small hole underneath you’re trying to push the little lock tab, measure 90° and drill a hole at the side in the same position. This is where the lock tab is when the barrel is at the LOCK position. That’s the easy way to avoid drilling the whole lock…

Hey SaFiS,

The barrel is in the OFF position. But what you marked up is what it is inside the housing. Using a 90 degree pick I could feel something being depressed. I'm assuming it is the tang. If drilling the side would still work from what you show I'd much rather do that.

If it’s in the OFF you just need to push the tab though the existing hole and simultaneously pull the lock from the other side…

It's out, no drilling

I went back to the 90 degree pick an inserted one of the new keys in the barrel to use to wiggle the barrel out. I thought it would push out easier than that.

Thanks all!
